در این تحقیق ساختار تشریحی برگ ١۱ گونه و زیر گونه از جنس مریم نخودی در ایران مطالعه شده است. مهمترین اختلاف ها در این بین به تعداد لایه های پارانشیم نردبانی و اسفنجی، ضخامت برگ، ضخامت کوتیکول در سطح فوقانی، اندازه سلول های اپیدرمی و تیپ های مختلف کرک مربوط می شوند. این صفات دارای ارزش تاکسونومیکی بالایی بوده، می توانند به عنوان ابزاری مفید برای جداسازی گونه های مختلف این جنس محسوب گردند.
