Cucumber is an economically important vegetable crop worldwide. Powdery mildew (PM) is one of the most severe diseases that can affect cucumber crops. There have been several research efforts to isolate PM resistance genes for breeding PM-resistant cucumber. In the present study, we used a chromosome segment substitution line, SSL508-28, which carried PM resistance genes from the donor parent, ...

A cDNA clone corresponding to a gibberellin-responsive gene (CRG16) was isolated from cucumber hypocotyls. CRG16 was deduced to encode an extremely hydrophobic protein of 65 amino acids. The deduced sequence exhibited no significant homology to other proteins. Levels of CRG16 mRNA reflected the gibberellin-induced elongation of cucumber hypocotyls.

To compare the performance of Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande) and native Frankliniella intonsa (Trybom) on cucumber and tomato leaves in laboratory, life history characters were investigated, and life tables were constructed using the method of age-stage, two-sex table life. Compared with tomato leaf, there were shorter total preoviposition period (TPOP), higher fecundity, longer female l...

A comparative study on the effect of chemical fertilizers and bio-fertilizers was done on growth and biochemical parameters in cucumber plant (Cucumis sativus). An experiment was conducted in Randomized Completely Blocks Design (RCBD) with four replicates. The treatment were (T1 = Control, T2 = Bio-fertilizer, T3 = Chemical and T4 = Combination treatment (biofertilizer and 1/2 chemical)) at Agr...

The host plant expansion of host-specialized Aphis gossypii (Glover) has been well studied in the laboratory; however, this phenomenon is poorly understood in the field. Here, we provide a series of laboratory and field experiments to assess the role of zucchini in the host plant expansion of cotton-specialized aphids. We observed that cotton-specialized aphids possessed the ability to expand o...

Cucumber is vulnerable to many foliage diseases. Recent studies reported cloning of candidate genes for several diseases in cucumber; however, the exact defence mechanisms remain unclear. Dof genes have been shown to play significant roles in plant growth, development, and responses to biotic and abiotic stresses. Dof genes coding for plant-specific transcription factors can promote large-scale...

Differential protection of plants by Enterobacter cloacae was studied by investigating early sensing and response behavior of Pythium ultimum sporangia toward seeds in the presence or absence of E. cloacae. Ten percent of P. ultimum sporangia were activated within the first 30 min of exposure to cucumber seeds. In contrast, 44% of the sporangia were activated as early as 15 min after exposure t...

abstract comparative advantage is one of the important economic criterions in production, import and export programming. in this survey, existence and nonexistence of the most important vegetables(potato, cucumber and tomato) comparative advantage in jiroft aria in the year 1385-86 by use of two comparative advantage recognition indexes was determined. the first indexes were social cost benefit...
