گیاه ارغوان (Cercis) متعلق به خانواده Caesalpinaceae است. دو گونه از این جنس به نام‌های C. siliquastrum, C. griffithii در ایران حضور دارند. در این پژوهش 4 جمعیت از گونه‌های C. siliquastrum (1 جمعیت) و C. griffithii (3 جمعیت) مورد مطالعه سیتوژنتیکی قرار گرفت و پارامتر‌های کروموزومی در هر جمعیت بررسی شد. کلیه جمعیت‌‌ها با عدد پایه کروموزومی 7n= دیپلوئید و دارای فرمول کاریوتایپی 14x=2n =2 بودند.
