Anti-DNA cell-penetrating autoantibodies have been extensively studied in autoimmune but not in normal sera. We investigated herein the presence and properties of cell-penetrating antibodies (CPAbs) in intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg), a blood product of pooled normal human IgG. IVIg cell penetration was observed into various cell lines, as well as cells from several organs of mice injected in...
Acute pandysautonomia has been suggested to be an uncommon variant of Guillain-Barre syndrome. Acute pandysautonomia does not seem to have been treated with intravenous immunoglobulin or other therapies proved efficacious in Guillain-Barre syndrome. A patient is reported with severe acute pandysautonomia who responded dramatically to intravenous immunoglobulin. The findings are consistent with ...
We describe a case of acute disseminated encephalomyelitis in a child. This case is unusual in that the illness was characterised by recurrent episodes rather than a monophasic course and that the choice of treatment was intravenous immunoglobulin over corticosteroids. The rapid and remarkable recovery is highlighted and a review of the treatment for this rare condition is discussed.
Intravenous immunoglobulins in liver transplant patients: Perspectives of clinical immune modulation
Neonates, especially VLBW, are at high risk for sepsis related morbidity and mortality for immaturity of their immune system and invasive NICU practices. The paucity of immunoglobulins in preterm neonates consequently to the immaturity of immune system contributes to their high risk for systemic infection. The use of intravenous IgM enriched immunoglobulins, with higher antimicrobial activity t...
Intravenous application of immunoglobulins (IVIg) is an effective and usually well tolerated yet costly therapeutic regimen in chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP). We report two CIDP patients treated with subcutaneous infusion of immunoglobulins (SCIg) after IVIg therapy was shown to be effective. Application of SCIg was well tolerated, easy to manage, and led to stabilizat...
Susac syndrome (SS) or retino-cochleo-cerebral vasculopathy is an extremely rare, severe, and potentially disabling condition. Underlying occlusive microangiopathy in SS clinically characterized by the triad of encephalopathy, sensorineural hearing loss branch retinal arterial occlusion. therapy envisages simultaneous use high doses glucocorticoids, intravenous immunoglobulins, cyclophosphamide...
