rostate cancer is evidenced by profound histological, cellular, and nuclear changes in the organization of the prostate. Histological assessment of prostate tissue taken from surgically removed tumors has traditionally relied on visual pathological interpretation. The principal classification scheme used in visual pathology of the prostate, Gleason grading, has proven successful in characterizi...
PREMISE OF THE STUDY The earliest eukaryotes were likely flagellates with a centriole that nucleates the centrosome, the microtubule-organizing center (MTOC) for nuclear division. The MTOC in higher fungi, which lack flagella, is the spindle pole body (SPB). Can we detect stages in centrosome evolution leading to the diversity of SPB forms observed in terrestrial fungi? Zygomycetous fungi, whic...
Detection of humans and estimation of their 2D poses from a single image are challenging tasks. This is especially true when part of the observation is occluded. However, given a limited class of movements, poses can be recovered given the visible body-parts. To this end, we propose a novel template representation where the body is divided into five body-parts. Given a match, we not only estima...
Spindle morphogenesis is regulated by cyclin-dependent kinases and monitored by checkpoint pathways to accurately coordinate chromosomal segregation with other events in the cell cycle. We have previously dissected the contribution of individual B-type cyclins to spindle morphogenesis in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. We showed that the S-phase cyclin Clb5p is required for coupling spindle assembly ...
Many viruses target cytoplasmic polyA binding protein (PABPC) to effect widespread inhibition of host gene expression, a process termed viral host-shutoff (vhs). During lytic replication of Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) we observed that PABPC was efficiently translocated from the cytoplasm to the nucleus. Translocated PABPC was diffusely distributed but was excluded from viral replication compartmen...
Alignment of the two eyes is controlled by a finely tuned, fast acting system with components within the brain. Assessment of binocular alignment has classically been done statically. Eye positions are assessed in primary position and at eccentric angles to interpret the functional status of the oculomotor nerves and muscles. However, assessment of dynamic eye alignment, the coordination of the...
Here, we report the complete genome sequences of low-passage virulent and high-passage avirulent variants of pathogenic Leptospira interrogans serovar Manilae strain UP-MMC-NIID, a major causative agent of leptospirosis. While there were no major differences between the genome sequences, the levels of base modifications were higher in the avirulent variant.
Neuronal intranuclear inclusion disease (NIID) is a relatively new entity identified as a progressive neurodegenerative disease characterised by eosinophilic hyaline intranuclear inclusions widely observed in neuronal and somatic cells. Renal biopsy from one of our patients with NIID showed lupus nephritis-like pathology. He was treated with steroids and angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors...
