In this paper, we indicate some possible applications of ILP or similar techniques in the knowledge discovery eld, and then discuss several methods for adapting and linking ILP-systems to relational database systems. The proposed methods range from \pure ILP" to \based on techniques originating in ILP". We show that it is both easy and advantageous to adapt ILP-systems in this way.
Inductive Logic Programming (ILP) is a new discipline which investigates the inductive construction of rst-order clausal theories from examples and background knowledge. We survey the most important theories and methods of this new eld. Firstly, various problem speciications of ILP are formalised in semantic settings for ILP, yielding a \model-theory" for ILP. Secondly, a generic ILP algorithm ...
The role of implicit and explicit negative feedback in language acquisition has been of major concern, especially in Second Language Acquisition (SLA). Research in SLA has demonstrated that implicit negative feedback such as recast and implicit expansion are potential triggers of language development and learning. Data from two experiments, using a pretest-posttest experimental control design, ...
Recent research in linguistics singles out emotion words as different from other abstract words. The goal of this article is to examine five factors that may impact the use of L2 emotion vocabulary. The first study considers the impact of language proficiency, gender, and extraversion on the use of emotion words in the advanced French interlanguage of 29 Dutch L1 speakers. The second examines t...

This study investigated how native language background influences the intelligibility of speech by non-native talkers for non-native listeners from either the same or a different native language background as the talker. Native talkers of Chinese (n = 2), Korean (n = 2), and English (n = 1) were recorded reading simple English sentences. Native listeners of English (n = 21), Chinese (n = 21), K...
Cross-linguistic Influence in Third Language Acquisition: Factors Influencing Interlanguage Transfer
In the field of Second Language Acquisition (SLA), the role of transfer has been theorized and studied to account for the influence of the native language on an interlanguage. However, stemming from behaviorist mentality, the concept of transfer has become widely associated with the direct transfer of habits and fails to take into consideration other cross-linguistic influences (CLI) that shape...
With an eye to increased efficiency, agent communication language (ACL) designers have heeded the analogy with natural language and introduced elements from natural language pragmatics (NLP) into their designs. However, ACL pragmatics has not availed itself of NLP advances to the extent that it could. While a few aspects of pragmatics are incorporated, most notably speech acts, their inclusion ...
Inhibitor of apoptosis protein (IAP)-like protein-1 (ILP-1) (also known as X-linked IAP [XIAP] and mammalian IAP homolog A [MIHA]) is a potent inhibitor of apoptosis and exerts its effects, at least in part, by the direct association with and inhibition of specific caspases. Here, we describe the molecular cloning and characterization of a human gene related to ILP-1, termed ILP-2. Despite high...
