Using the Belle detector operating at the KEKB ee storage ring, we have measured the mean multiplicity and the momentum spectrum of neutral pions from the decays of the Υ(4S) resonance. We measure a mean of 4.70± 0.04 ± 0.22 neutral pions per Υ(4S) decay.

We examine the hadronic interactions of quarkonia, focusing on the decays ψ(2S) → J/ψππ and Υ(2S) → Υ(1S)ππ. The leading gluonic operators in the multipole expansion are matched onto the chiral lagrangian with the coefficients fit to available data, both at tree-level and loop-level in the chiral expansion. It is suggested that the quark-confining force is related by crossing symmetry to a colorsinglet glueball G which is well described as a loop of one quantum of color magnetic flux. Electron pair annihilation as high as ≈ 2GeV above the Υ mass could produce Υ → ll accompanied by G or one of its excited states.

We give an estimate of the C-even B 0 ¯ B 0 background coming from the radia-tive decay Υ(4S) → B 0 ¯ B 0 γ at B-factories. Our result B(Υ(4S) → B 0 ¯ B 0 γ) ≃ 3× 10 −9 shows that such background could be safely neglected in the analyses of CP violating effects.

The η production in the (n, n ′) bottomonium transitions Υ(n) → Υ(n ′)η, is studied in the method used before for dipion heavy quarko-nia transitions. The widths Γ η (n, n ′) are calculated without fitting parameters for n = 2, 3, 4, 5, n ′ = 1.Resulting Γ η (4, 1) is found to be large in agreement with recent data.
