This paper is a review of works about the use of the logpolar image model for pattern recognition purposes. Particular attention is paid to the rotationand scale-invariant pattern recognition problem, which is simplified by the log-polar mapping. In spite of this advantage, ordinary translations become a complicated image transform in the logpolar domain. Two approaches addressing the estimatio...

We present a novel approach 1 for extracting primal sketch features (edges, bars, blobs and ends) from a log-polar image. Symmetry operators and a PCA pre-processing module precede a set of neural networks that learn the feature’s class and contrast. Experiments show the process accurately extracts the desired feature-based image description.

We investigate the task of compressing an image using different probability models for different regions of the image. In this task, using a larger number of regions would result in better compression of the coefficients of the image but would also require more bits for describing the regions and probability models in the regions. We discuss using quadtrees and windowing for performing the comp...

In this paper, we propose a new method for blind/no-reference image quality assessment based on the logderivative statistics of natural scenes. The new method, called DErivative Statistics-based Image QUality Evaluator (DESIQUE), extracts image quality-related statistical features at two image scales in both the spatial and frequency domains, upon which a two-stage framework is employed to eval...

Since the input image in computer vision and graphics containing various texture/structure patterns provides rich visual information, how to properly decompose them is a challenging problem. Recent developments in high-contrast detail smoothing show that how they define edges and how this prior information guides smoothing are two key points. In this paper, we present a novel Log-transform weig...

In recent years due to low-cost, flexibility, and potential toward collision avoidance the Vehicle and Non Vehicle identification based on image processing bring more attention. In particular, vehicle verification is especially challenging on account of the heterogeneity of vehicles in color, size, pose, etc. Image based vehicle verification is usually addressed as a supervised classification p...

In this article, we present a novel approach for effective segmentation of color images, by integrating the advantages of the YIQ and the Log Normal Distribution features. Log Normal Distribution is considered in this paper, for effective segmentation, by considering the pattern of the pixels. The proposed method entails less complexity and is thus can be used reasonably very well for realistic...

Many watermarking algorithms embed the watermark into the image as contiguous non-overlapping tiles. This tiling structure forms an implicit synchronization template that can be revealed through autocorrelation. This template is composed of a set of weak peaks, replicating the relative position of the watermark tiles. Hence, synchronization can be resolved by comparing the actual locations of t...

Foveal or spatially-variant image representations are important components of active vision systems. Log-polar sampling is a particularly powerful example as a result of the simplicity with which expansion and rotation can be handled. These properties are exploited here for the detection of general straight lines, line segments, and circles through the foveation point. An efficient and practica...

The ability to prevent unauthorized users from gaining access to classified or sensitive data is crucial to many organizations, especially the military. There has been significantly increased attention in recent years in biometrics technology in order to provide more secured access controls to information systems. Different technologies and various products have been developed to authenticate u...
