The seismic performance of hybrid braces composed of steel and shape memory alloy (SMA) was investigated in this paper. Six types of hybrid braces were used, constituted by SMA content of 0, 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100%. A nonlinear dynamic analysis was performed under El Centro earthquake records, with the maximum acceleration of 0.6g and 0.9g. Our results showed that the seismic performance, i.e....

this paper provides a comparison of the maximum inter-story drifts and tip acceleration of both a 16 and 30 stories building each with different structural systems; hybrid r.c moment frame with shear walls and hybrid steel frame with shear walls and x bracing which are equipped by passive dampers. each of the building models were analyzed as fully non-linear structures for variety of dampers pl...

In this paper we investigate the decidability of the reach-ability problem for planar non-linear hybrid systems. A planar hybrid system has the property that its state space corresponds to the standard Euclidean plane, which is partitioned into a nite number of (polyhedral) regions. To each of these regions is assigned some vector eld which governs the dynamical behaviour of the system within t...

A control scheme is proposed for stabilization of backward driving along simple paths for a miniaturized vehicle composed of a truck and a two-axle trailer. The paths chosen are straight lines and arcs of circles. When reversing, the truck and trailer under examination can be modeled as an unstable nonlinear system with state and input saturations. The simplified goal of stabilizing along a tra...

In this paper, we study Zeno behavior in Lagrangian hybrid systems, which are mechanical systems with unilateral constraints that are undergoing impacts. Zeno solutions involve an infinite number of impacts occurring in a finite amount of time (the Zeno time). In such systems, one is typically not able to explicitly compute the Zeno time and Zeno limit point, and even not to detect a Zeno solut...

A robust hybrid control strategy for a broad class of hybrid nonlinear processes with actuator constraints and uncertain dynamics is proposed. These ®ariable-structure processes comprise a finite family of constrained uncertain continuous nonlinear dynamical subsystems, together with discrete e®ents that trigger the transition between the continuous subsystems. The proposed control strategy is ...

Many discrete-time dynamic models of current interest are based on functions that, while generally continuous, are nonsmooth; examples include speci c multimodels, hinging hyperplane models, and hybrid systems. We consider two models for which we can vary the smoothness and examine its in uence on qualitative behavior. In the smooth regime, both models exhibit asymptotic stability for suÆcientl...

This article presents an approach to simulating hybrid systems. We show how a discrete controller that controls a continuous environment can be co-simulated with the environment (plant) using C-code generated automatically from mathematical models. This approach uses Signal with Simulink to model complex hybrid systems. The choices are motivated by the fact that Signal is a powerful tool for mo...

The tool FLOW* performs Taylor model-based flowpipe construction for non-linear (polynomial) hybrid systems. FLOW* combines well-known Taylor model arithmetic techniques for guaranteed approximations of the continuous dynamics in each mode with a combination of approaches for handling mode invariants and discrete transitions. FLOW* supports a wide variety of optimizations including adaptive ste...

We propose a framework called HydLa for simple modeling and reliable simulation of hybrid systems which involve discrete and continuous changes over time. HydLa employs interval constraints as a central principle to express uncertainties in modeling, error bounds in the computation of nonlinear continuous changes, and reachable state sets that play key roles in verification. In this research, w...
