Very late activation antigens (VLA) are human leukocyte-neuronal crossreactive cell surface antigens
The antigenic relationship between human neuronal and lymphocyte cell surface antigens has been analyzed using heteroantisera raised against human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). The specificities of the crossreactive antigens were examined by immunoprecipitation of 125I-labeled SK-N-SH cultured neuronal cells using rabbit anti-PBMC (RAPBMC) sera and compared to known specificities u...
HLA (Human Leukocyte-A) antigens of 20 patients with toxoplasmic retinochoroiditis were determined by the standard microlymphocyte cytotoxicity test to see if these patients have different immunogenetic backgrounds from the normal controls. The results showed that there were no significant differences between the patients and the normal controls.
Recent technologic advancement enables us to prepare leukocyte-depleted or UVB-irradiated platelet concentrates for possible prevention of primary HLA alloimmunization. However, it is yet not known which of these two approaches is more efficacious. Because well-controlled studies cannot be easily conducted in human subjects to answer this question, a series of experiments were performed using a...

The 5th International Workshop on Human Leukocyte Differentiation Antigens (Boston, USA, 3-7 November 1993) recommended the adoption of 48 new CD clusters and subclusters and the redefinition of 14 previously established clusters. The additions and changes made to the existing CD nomenclature are summarized in a Table.
The analysis of leukocyte differentiation has been greatly enhanced by developments in three areas of methodology: Firstly by the establishment of relatively stable permanent hematopoietic cell lines of a variety of origin, secondly by the development of numerous specific polyclonal and monoclonal heterologous antibodies to various leukocyte antigens, and thirdly by the introduction of many fun...
Background: In addition to Human Leukocyte Antigens (HLA) compatibility, gene polymorphisms in cytokines might also be important in the quality of allogeneic immune response. Objective: To evaluate the influence of HLA-DR matching and a number of cytokine gene polymorphisms on acute rejection after living-unrelated donor (LURD) kidney transplantation. Methods: A total of 42 renal transplants pe...
Naive lymphocytes patrol continuously between the blood and different lymphatic tissues to sample the whole body for foreign antigens. During inflammation, leukocyte recruitment into tissue is enhanced to promote the recruitment of a range of effector cells into the affected area. The complex recirculatory pathways that underlie this process are governed by adhesion receptors on blood-borne leu...
