In this paper, we compare three different machine learning techniques for predicting length of stay (LOS) in Pennsylvania Federal and Specialty hospitals. Using the real-world data on 88 hospitals, we compare the performances of three different machine learning techniques—Classification and Regression Tree (CART), Chi-Square Automatic Interaction Detection (CHAID) and Support Vector Regression ...
The International Ergonomics Association plays a leadership role in shaping the future of ergonomics. Having formed nearly 50 years ago for researchers to meet and exchange their findings, it still provides a wide range of opportunities for promoting research and teaching. In 2006, the IEA is also an outward looking organisation with linkages to governments, international agencies and other pro...
Thanks to advances in diagnostics and imaging, the detection of multiple malignancies is becoming increasingly common clinical practice. Combined multiquadrant surgery can be considered a viable strategy avoid sequential surgeries linked higher discomfort for patients, delayed initiation adjuvant treatments, poorer cosmetic outcomes. Although laparoscopy widespread minimally invasive surgical o...

This study explored dimensions of relationship between ergonomics and quality in manufacturing context. Role of ergonomics in achieving freedom from error and employee motivation in manufacturing and implementation of ergonomics into quality systems were elaborated. Pertinent case studies were reviewed. Need for experimental analysis of the link between ergonomics and quality was emphasized.
Methods Using the French Hospital Database on HIV (FHDHANRS Co4), 439 antiretroviral (ARV)-naive patients with undetectable viral load (VL) who switched from a first boosted PI-containing cART to a combination including EFV (n=196), NVP (n=123) or ABC (n=120) were selected. Each patient was matched with 3 patients who did not change their cART on the basis of sex, age, CD4 cell count, VL and da...
Background Mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of HIV, has been a major global public health burden. Despite the use of antiretroviral prophylaxis by HIV-positive pregnant women and their infants, safe obstetric practice and safe infant feeding habits in the prevention of MTCT of HIV, the prevalence of HIV among HIV-exposed infants is still high in Cameroon. Objective Our objectives were to d...
BACKGROUND Two hundred and twenty-one HIV-positive renal biopsies were analysed from Groote Schuur Hospital to determine outcomes and prognostic indicators based on histology and clinical features. METHODS The histology findings were compared with patient demographics, clinical and renal parameters, mortality, CD4 count and date of commencing combined anti-retroviral therapy (cART). Follow-up...
The International Ergonomics Association defines ergonomics as: ‘the scientific discipline concerned with the understanding of interactions among humans and other elements of a system, and the profession that applies theory, principles, data and methods to design in order to optimize human well-being and overall system performance’. From a practical point of view, ergonomics is the science and ...
OBJECTIVES In this paper three statistical methods [logistic regression, classification and regression tree (CART), and fuzzy inference] for the prediction of lymph node metastasis in carcinoma of the tongue are compared. METHODS A retrospective collection of data in 75 patients treated for tongue cancer was carried out at the Clinic and Policlinic for Oral and Maxillo-facial Surgery at the U...
