Blunt traumatic injuries to the superior gluteal artery are rare in clinic. A majority of injuries present as aneurysms following penetrating trauma, fracture pelvis or posterior dislocation of the hip joint. We reported a rare case of superior gluteal artery pseudoaneurysm following blunt trauma presenting as large expanding right gluteal hematoma without any bony injury. The gluteal hematoma ...
Primary tuberculous gluteal abscess without bone involvement has not been reported in infancy. We report 3 infants with isolated tuberculous gluteal abscess who presented with gluteal swelling of 2 weeks, 1 month and 6 months duration, respectively. Tuberculin test was positive in all cases. Pus cultures from the gluteal abscess grew Mycobacterium tuberculosis in all 3 infants.
The hip joint gains its vascular supply from the superior gluteal arteries as well as from the medial and lateral circumflex femoral arteries with the first perforating artery. In gluteal trauma, the superior and inferior gluteal artery may be affected which may end with vascular insult of hip joint. The current study includes a dissection of 171 cadavers to examine the vascular supply of hip j...
The compartment syndrome is a condition characterized by a raised hydraulic pressure within a closed and non expandable anatomical space. It leads to a vascular insufficiency that becomes critical once the vascular flow cannot return the fluids back to the venous system. This causes a potential irreversible damage of the contents of the compartment, especially within the muscle tissues. Gluteal...
PURPOSE We retrospectively compared the efficacy of 3-dimensional (3D) gradient-echo magnetic resonance T(1)-weighted sequence using the iterative decomposition of water and fat with echo asymmetry and least-squares estimation (IDEAL) technique with the efficacy of conventional 3D gradient-echo sequences for diagnosing ovarian masses at 3T. MATERIALS AND METHODS In images of 32 women (mean ag...
BACKGROUND Involuntary movements of gluteal muscles have rarely been reported. CASE REPORT This 46-year-old female with pelvic endometriosis developed involuntary rhythmic movements in the left gluteus maximus, which within a year became bilateral. The movements gradually increased in intensity and interfered with ambulation. Electromyography, at rest, demonstrated almost continuous periodic ...
Background: The sciatic nerve is formed in the pelvic cavity and leaves through greater foramen below piriformis muscle. It terminates by giving tibial common peroneal (fibular) near superior angle of popliteal fossa. Awareness variations bifurcation significant during deep intramuscular gluteal injections, clinical conditions such as syndrome, sciatica, coccygodynia muscle atrophy. main object...
