In his article, "How is a Genre Created? Five Combinatory Hypotheses," Johan F. Hoorn discusses that in genre theory, the creation of a genre is usually envisioned as a complex selection procedure in which several factors play an equivocal role. First, he advances that genre usually is investigated at the level of the phenomenon. For instance, questions may drawn on the effects of social status...

This study investigated the clinical effects of using a supragingival biofilm control regimen (SUPRA) as a step prior to scaling and root planing (SRP). A split-mouth clinical trial was performed in which 25 subjects with periodontitis (47.2 ± 6.5 years) underwent treatment (days 0–60) and monitoring (days 90–450) phases. At Day 0 (baseline) treatments were randomly assigned per quadrant: SUPRA...

A lot of recent work has studied strategies related to bulk loading of large data sets into multidimensional index structures In this paper we address the problem of bulk insertions into existing index struc tures with particular focus on R trees which are an important class of index structures used widely in commercial database systems We pro pose a new technique which as opposed to the curren...

This paper provides an overview of the AcousticBrainz Genre Task organized as part of theMediaEval 2017 Benchmarking Initiative for Multimedia Evaluation. The task is focused on content-based music genre recognition using genre annotations from multiple sources and large-scale music features data available in the AcousticBrainz database. The goal of our task is to explore how the same music pie...

This paper describes a new approach to defining genre. A model is presented that defines genre based on likability ratings rather than features of the content itself. By collecting hundreds of thousands of likability ratings, and incorporating these into a topic model, one can create genre categories that are interesting and intuitively plausible. Moreover, we give evidence that likability-base...

This paper explores how electronic health record (EHR) systems have introduced a new genre for physicians to use (a genre we refer to as check-list) that is used in addition to their traditional narrative genre as part of a single patient health record. Our analysis suggests that it is because the overlap between these two genres is created and used interdependently that breakdowns occur in the...

IDR(s) is now recognized as one of the most effective methods, often superior to other Krylov subspace methods, for large nonsymmetric linear systems of equations. In this paper we propose an improvement upon IDR(s) by incorporating a higher-order stabilization polynomial into IDR(s). The proposed algorithm, named GBi-CGSTAB(s, L), shares desirable features with both IDR(s) and Bi-CGSTAB(L).
