We compare the observed correlations between the maximum brightness, postmaximum decline rate and color at maximum light of Type Ia supernovae (SN Ia) with model predictions. The observations are based on a total of 40 SN Ia with 29 SN of the Calan Tololo Supernova Search and 11 local SN which cover a range of ≈ 2m in the absolute visual brightness. The observed correlations are not tight, one ...

We cast the q-rotor in the framework of Barnett-Pegg theory for rotation angle, whose underlying algebra is SUq(2). A new method to fix the deformation parameter from the theory is suggested. We test our ideas by fitting rotational spectra in deformed even-even and superdeformed nuclei. The results are in good agreement with the previous phenomenological applications of q-rotor model.

Using the known numbers and evolution of unobscured AGN, and assuming that there is a large number of corresponding obscured AGN — as expected if AGN unification is correct — we predict the infrared number counts of AGN. These agree well with the observed GOODS Spitzer data at 3.6, 8 and 24 μm, provided that the dust content of the obscuring torus is ∼ 2x less than assumed. This strongly suppor...

The data on arrival directions of ultra-high energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) detected with the Yakutsk array are analyzed. The work is induced by the recent claim of the Pierre Auger collaboration for the significant correlation found between UHECRs and positions of nearby Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) on the celestial sphere; and no correlation the HiRes collaboration stands for. Conflicting data o...

M87 is the first extragalactic source detected at the TeV that is not a blazar. To account for the recent observations of M87 made by the High Energy Stereoscopic System (H.E.S.S.) telescope array, we developed a new multi-blob synchrotron self-Compton model. In the framework of this model, we present here the predictions for the very high energy emission of three active galactic nuclei with ex...

Current underground detectors can search for multiple muons from multi-W(Z) production initiated by ultrahigh energy neutrinos from active galactic nuclei. O(µb) cross sections give rise to downward going muon bundles whose features differ from those of atmospheric muon bundles.

The narrow emission line luminosities of radio-loud AGN are well-correlated with their low-frequency radio luminosities. This correlation is linear and extends over at least four orders of magnitude. The correlation is discussed in terms of a linear relationship between the power in the radio-emitting jets and the photoionizing (i.e. accretion) luminosity. Support for this theory comes from a d...
