Starting from a biologically inspired framework, Gabor filters were built up from retinal filters via LMSE algorithms. A subset of retinal filter kernels was chosen to form a particular Gabor filter by using a weighted sum. One-dimensional optimization approaches were shown to be inappropriate for the problem. All model parameters were fixed with biological or image processing constraints. Deta...

The effectiveness of Gabor filters for texture segmentation is well known. In this paper, we propose a texture identification scheme, based on a neural network (NN) using Gabor features. The features are derived from both the Gabor cosine and sine filters. Through experiments, we demonstrate the effectiveness of a NN based classifier using Gabor features for identifying textures in a controlled...

We present an approach to the combination of an arbitrary number of image features to produce more sophisticated features for anatomical landmark detection. The combination was done using reservoir networks. The results were compared to Gabor wavelet features on single point detection in 2D slices of MR image data to show behavior and potential quality of the combined features.

Gabor filters are a widely used feature extraction method in image analysis. In this study, a new method is presented that utilises Gabor filters for extracting fundamental frequencies of objects. The fundamental frequencies represent the shape of an object and can be used to classify objects with dissimilar spatial dimensions. Theoretical results are verified by experiments with real images of...

Facial expression recognition is an interesting and challenging problem, and found in many applications like humancomputer interaction (HCI), robotics, video surveillance, border security, clinical research, person verification, crime prevention etc.. Facial expression is the movement of the muscles beneath the skin of the face. Through facial expressions human can convey their emotions without...

Previous approaches to texture analysis and segmentation use multichannel filtering by applying a set of filters in the frequency domain or a set of masks in the spatial domain. This paper presents two new texture segmentation algorithms based on multichannel filtering in conjunction with neural networks for feature extraction and segmentation. The features extracted by Gabor filters have been ...

With the advancement of CAD (Computer Assisted Diagnosis) Image Processing in Medical Field has created its own niche. Retinal Blood Vessels are highly complicated with low contrast and of very thin diameter which often causes failure in diagnosis of exact abnormalities. However, many researchers have worked on enhancement and segmentation of Retinal Blood Vessels through various methods over t...

Gabor features are widely used in many computer vision applications such as image segmentation and pattern recognition. To extract Gabor features, a set of Gabor filters tuned to several different frequencies and orientations is utilized. The computational complexity of these features, due to their non-orthogonality, prevents their use in many real-time or near real-time tasks. Many research ef...
