Striatal fast-spiking (FS) interneurons are interconnected by gap junctions into sparsely connected networks. As demonstrated for cortical FS interneurons, these gap junctions in the striatum may cause synchronized spiking, which would increase the influence that FS neurons have on spiking by the striatal medium spiny (MS) neurons. Dysfunction of the basal ganglia is characterized by changes in...

conclusion fs t2 w and ce fs t1 w sequences of axial planes were the most useful sequences in determination of active sacroiliitis. therefore, in patients with renal failure or allergy to contrast media, fs t2 wi can be obtained to detect active sacroiliitis. objectives the aim of this retrospective study was to assess the value of different magnetic resonance imaging (mri) sequences in evaluat...

This paper reports experiments designed to find the concentrations of internal and external Na and K at which inward and outward furosemide-sensitive (FS) Na and K fluxes are equal, so that there is no net FS movement of Na and K. The red cell cation content was modified by using the ionophore nystatin, varying cell Na (Nai) from 0 to 34 mM (K substitution, high-K cells) and cell K (Ki) from 0 ...

Febrile seizures (FS) affect almost 2-5% of children and factors related to an increase susceptibility of children to FS may involve an imbalance of inflammatory cytokines and genetic factors. FS had low morbidity, but may be associated with the occurrence of late chronic epilepsy. Here we describe factors related to FS and its possible correlation with SUDEP.

PURPOSE To compare dry eye after small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) and femtosecond laser-assisted LASIK (FS-LASIK) for correcting myopia. METHODS CENTRAL, Embase and PubMed were searched in November 2016. All randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and prospective cohorts that compared dry eye after SMILE with FS-LASIK were selected. RESULTS Five cohorts and one RCT were identified fo...

INTRODUCTION Febrile seizure (FS) is the most common paediatric neurological problem. The purpose of this study was to determine the frequency of afebrile seizures subsequent to FS in children with initial FS and to evaluate its risk factors. METHODS A prospective study was conducted on all children (age 6 months to 6 years) referred with initial FS to the Shahid Sadoughi Hospital, Yazd, Iran...

The widely practiced intra-operative methods for rapid evaluation and detection of sentinel lymph node (SLN) status include frozen section (FS) and touch imprint cytology (TIC). This study optimized the use of TIC and FS in the intra-operative detection of breast SLNs based on the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) nomogram. Three hundred forty-two SLNs were removed from 79 patients...

BACKGROUND Emerging evidence suggests that fast-spiking (FS) interneurons are disrupted in multiple neuropsychiatric disorders including autism, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder. FS cells, which are the primary source of synaptic inhibition, are critical for temporally organizing brain activity, regulating brain maturation, and modulating critical developmental periods in multiple cortical s...

In the present study, we assessed a SCN1A single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) (rs3812718, IVS5N+5 G>A), first analyzed by Schlachter et al. We genotyped 164 patients with febrile seizures (FS) [of those 62 adults with focal epilepsy (FEFS(+)) and 102 children with pure FS (Pure FS)] and 199 matched controls. Moreover, we also tested a third subgroup of 113 patients with focal epilepsy syndrome...

BACKGROUND Fanconi syndrome (FS) is a generalized transport defect in the proximal renal tubule leading to renal losses of phosphate, calcium, uric acid, bicarbonates as well as glucose, amino acids and other organic compounds. It is caused by inherited or acquired disorders including low mass or high mass multiple myeloma. OBJECTIVES To report the first case series of patients with lymphoma ...
