In this paper, the authors describe fractional polynomials and cubic splines with which to represent smooth dose-response relations in summarizing meta-analytical aggregate data. Use of these two curve-fitting families can help prevent the problems arising from inappropriate linearity assumptions. These methods are illustrated in the problem of estimating the shape of the dose-response curve be...

In this article using the inverse Laplace transform, we show analytical solutions for the generalized mass transfers with (and without) a chemical reaction. These transfers have been expressed as the Couette flow with the fractional derivative of the Caputo sense. Also, using the Hankel contour for the Bromwich's integral, the solutions are given in terms of the generalized Airy functions.

In addition to kinematic description of biological reaction, flow pattern plays an important role in designing constructed wetlands. This study investigates the effects of flow distribution on constructed sub-surface horizontal flow wetland with a length of 26 m, width of 4 m and 1% bed slope in order to understand internal hydraulic functioning patterns. Inlet configuration is selected as a va...

The rating curve is the relationship between the water stage and the associated discharge in a givensection of a channel. In steady flow, this relationship usually has exponential type, whereas inunsteady it flow has a looped shape. Since direct developing of actual looped rating curve by usinghydrometric methods is merely possible, steady-state rating curve is commonly used as a downstreamboun...

by far, different models for determining the relationship between the flow rate  and amount of precipitation have been developed. many models are based on regression models with limited assumptions. one of the most common methods for estimating  sediment of rivers is sediment rating curve. for better estimation of the amount of sediment based of sediment curve  rating equation, it is possible t...

BACKGROUND Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) aims to increase coronary blood flow by relieving epicardial obstruction. However, no study has objectively confirmed this and assessed changes in flow over different phases of the cardiac cycle. We quantified the change in resting and hyperemic flow velocity after PCI in stenoses defined physiologically by fractional flow reserve and other pa...

INTRODUCTION We present the different roles of fractional flow reserve and optical coherence tomography in guiding treatment in a patient with recurrent chest pain. CASE PRESENTATION A 66-year-old Chinese woman presented to our department for the third time for her recurrent chest pain. Her physical examination was unremarkable; her previous two angiography examinations indicated that there w...

1. Glomerular filtration rate and effective renal blood-flow were normal in a series of patients with sickle cell anaemia. Fractional creatinine excretion and fractional urea excretion were increased. 2. During indomethacin administration there were significant falls in glomerular filtration rate, effective renal blood-flow, creatinine clearance and urea clearance in the patients with sickle ce...

BACKGROUND Fractional flow reserve (FFR) and coronary flow reserve (CFR) are indices of coronary stenosis severity that provide the clinician with complementary information on the contribution of epicardial arteries and microcirculation to total resistance to myocardial blood flow. At present, FFR and CFR can only be obtained by 2 separate guidewires. The present study tested the validity of th...
