We report the values of R = d ln(Vs)/d ln(Vp) due to water as a function of pressure for Mg2SiO4 olivine, wadsleyite, ringwoodite. The results show that ringwoodite has significantly lower R than olivine and wadsleyite; due to the reason that bulk modulus of ringwoodite is more sensitive to water than shear modulus. R of ringwoodite decreases with pressure while R of olivine and wadsleyite incr...

The spectrum of HV 2310, an evolved star in the Large Magellanic Cloud, taken with the Infrared Spectrograph (IRS) on the Spitzer Space Telescope reveals the presence of an optically thin shell of silicate dust with unusual spectral structure in the 10 μm feature, with an emission peak at 9.7 μm, a saddle at 10.4 μm, and an extended shoulder to 11.2 μm. This structure is similar to spectra from...

In an accompanying article, we have described a methodology for the simulation of dislocations in structurally complex materials. We illustrate the applicability of this method through studies of screw dislocations in a structurally simple ionic ceramic (MgO), a molecular ionic mineral (forsterite, Mg2SiO4), a semi-ionic zeolite (siliceous zeolite A) and a covalent molecular crystalline materia...

The development of techniques for high-speed image acquisition in optical coherence tomography (OCT) systems is essential for suppressing motion artifacts when one is imaging living systems. We describe a new OCT system for performing micrometer-scale, cross-sectional optical imaging at four images/s. To achieve OCT image-acquisition times of less than 1 s, we use a piezoelectric fiber stretche...
