Abstract Cold resistance of fruit tree buds is very important. Climate change brings unstable winters, and the temperature often fluctuates creates many problems in growing. Research on bud cold damage was conducted during three years (2019–2021) at Institute Horticulture. Three Latvian plum cultivars, ‘Ance’, ‘Adelyn’, ‘Sonora’, were studied, while cultivar ‘Jubileum’ used as a control. This s...

to investigate effect of calcium and growth medium on lilium (asiatic hybrid lilium bulbs “tresor” cultivar) and nutrients uptake, a factorial experiment based on completely randomized design was conducted by three levels of calcium in nutrient solution (2, 4 and 6 mm*) and five growth media (100% perlite, 70% perlite + 30% cocopeat, 50% perlite + 50% cocopeat, 30% perlite + 70% cocopeat, 100% ...

A protocol has been developed for the direct induction of adventitious shoots from leaf explants of in vitro raised Anthemis xylopoda O.Schwarz, a critically endangered Turkish endemic. The Murashige and Skoog (MS) media supplemented with N–benzyladenine (BA), kinetin (KIN), and thidiazuron (TDZ) were used in regeneration experiments. BA at 0.5 mg L concentration was chosen as the optimal treat...

A new Rafflesia population was found in Naha Jaley, Sarawak, 2012. This study aimed to identify this species and investigate its bud growth. First, we described the flower characteristics compared them with keithii R. tuan-mudae, which are candidate for flower. Also, investigated phylogenetic position of within Rafflesiaceae using DNA analysis. To estimate growth curve, observed development fro...

We have examined the effect of the protein phosphatase inhibitors okadaic acid and microcystin on pollen-pistil interactions in Brassica. Inhibitor-treated flowers or floral buds were pollinated with untreated pollen and examined for pollen tube growth by fluorescence microscopy. Our results show that type 1 or type 2A serine/threonine phosphatases play a crucial role in the pollination respons...

In situ PCR is a technique that allows specific nucleic acid sequences to be detected in individual cells and tissues. In situ PCR and IS-RT-PCR are elegant techniques that can increase both sensitivity and throughput, but they are, at best, only semiquantitative; therefore, it is desirable first to ascertain the expression pattern by conventional means to establish the suitable conditions for ...

In many commercial cut flowers, particularly those with spike or compound inflorescences, postharvest life and quality are highly dependent on the continued development of small buds to open blooms. Buds may be separated into two major types – those enclosed by a calyx, where petal growth is largely complete before the calyx opens or is shed, and those where the petals are naked and expand rapi...

Two acylated oleanane-type triterpene oligoglycosides, chakasaponins V and VI, an aromatic glycoside, chakanoside I, and an acylated flavonol oligoglycoside, chakaflavonoside A, were isolated from the flower buds of Chinese tea plant [Camellia sinensis (L.) O. KUNTZE]. The chemical structures of those new glycosides were elucidated on the basis of chemical and physicochemical evidence.
