We report a complication of radiopaque wire breakage from the medullary tube during closed antegrade intramedullary nailing for a femoral shaft fracture. To avoid such complication, the medullary tube should be checked carefully for colour changes and surface defects, and tested for flexibility before each use. The medullary tube should also be replaced before 100 exposures to autoclaving.
Non:::union::: of femoral neck fracture in young patients is still a big problem, specially in developing countries. Between 1980 and 1998 we performed 27 cases of valgusizing osteotomy to fix non:::union::: of femoral neck fracture on patient of 17 to 74 years old with an average of 45 years. Majority of the patients had displaced fracture of femoral neck and had under gone surgery but most we...
The geometry as well as bone mineral density (BMD) of the proximal femur contributes to fracture risk. How and the extent to which they change due to natural aging is not fully understood. We assessed BMD and geometry in the femoral neck and shaft separately, in 59 normal Japanese postmenopausal women aged 54-84 years, using clinical computed tomography (CT) and commercially available software,...
BACKGROUND When primary fixation of proximal femoral fractures with implants fails, revision osteosynthesis may be challenging. Tracts of previous implants and remaining insufficient bone stock in the proximal femur pose unique problems for the treatment. Intramedullary implants like proximal femoral nail (PFN) or surface implants like Dynamic Condylar Screw (DCS) are few of the described impla...
INTRODUCTION Injuries of the hip joint from pure hip dislocations to fracture dislocations have been described and classified by various authors. These descriptions do not include fracture dislocation of hip associated with fracture of the greater trochanter. CASE REPORT We report an unusual case of fracture dislocation of hip in which posterior dislocation of hip was associated with fracture...
PURPOSE To study the management and evaluate anatomical and functional outcomes of patients with ipsilateral proximal and shaft femoral fractures. METHODS A retrospective, descriptive and analytic study lasted for ten years and a half ranging from January 1, 2005 to June 30, 2015. The following parameters were studied: epidemiology, fracture characteristics, therapeutic, anatomical and functi...
