Burkholderia pseudomallei isolates from the Western Hemisphere are difficult to differentiate from those from regions in which melioidosis is traditionally endemic. We used internal transcribed spacer typing to determine that B. pseudomallei isolates from the Western Hemisphere are consistently type G. Knowledge of this relationship might be useful for epidemiologic investigations.

Melioidosis caused by Burkholderia pseudomallei infection is endemic in Southeast Asia and Northern Australia. Cardiovascular complications resulting in mycotic aneurysms are very rare. To our knowledge, there have only been 6 isolated case reports published in the literature to date. We report 6 cases of melioidosis in Singapore that presented as aortic aneurysms.

The Iberian hare (Lepus granatensis Rosenhauert, 1856) is a widely distributed endemic species in the Iberian Peninsula. In order to improve our knowledge of its population dynamics, the relative abundance and population trends of the Iberian hare were studied in the autumns of 1995–2012 in a protected area (Doñana National Park) by spotlighting in two different habitats: marshland and ecotones.

INTRODUCTION Tuberculosis, reported as the second most common infectious cause of death worldwide, is a key mortality contributor in developing countries and globally. Collaboration between endemic and non-endemic partners has always been essential for leprosy research: patients and clinical knowledge are mainly found in endemic countries, whereas technical advances and opportunities are usually first available in non-endemic countries.
