In recent pediatric trials of acute myeloid leukemia (AML), children with Down syndrome (DS) have had significantly more megakaryoblastic leukemia and have experienced better outcome than other children. To further characterize AML in DS, Children’s Cancer Group Studies 2861 and 2891 prospectively studied demography, biology, and response in AML and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) of children wi...

We examined the effects of chondroitinases on the release of dermatan sulfate (DS)-induced arginine amidase (AA) from rabbit ear artery. DS-induced AA release was significantly decreased by treatment with chondroitinase ABC (ABCase) in the rabbit ear artery. On the other hand, Chondroitinase ACII (ACIIase) enhanced spontaneous and DS-induced AA release. Heat-inactivated ABCase and ACIIase did n...

Spironolactone acts both as a diuretic and as an antihypertensive agent. It may be given alone or with other diuretic agents that act more proximally in the renal tubule. Increased levels of the mineralocorticoid, aldosterone, are present in primary and secondary hyperaldosteronism, Oedematous states in which secondary aldosteronism is usually involved include congestive cardiac failure, hepati...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Dysphagia screening (DS) before oral intake in patients with acute stroke is a hospital-level performance measure. We report outcomes of an initiative to improve compliance to this quality measure. METHODS The design was a pre- versus postintervention comparison study. The Intervention was an electronic medical record-based clinical DS system embedded within stroke admi...

vetiver grass (vetiveria zizanioides) is known to be survived under the diversesoil and water conditions. in order to study the effects of salinity stress on the seedlinggrowth of the desired species, a completely randomized design was conducted with 3replications. seeds were sown in the salty-soil plots in the greenhouse. salinity levels werespecified as 4 control ones including 20, 30 and 40 ...

This study was performed to examine whether there is an inappropriate regulation of intrarenal angiotensinogen in Dahl-salt sensitive rats (DS) fed a high salt diet (HS). Dahl salt-resistant rats (DR) and DS were maintained on HS (8% NaCl) or low salt diet (LS, 0.3% NaCl) for 4 weeks. Systolic blood pressure (SBP), measured by tail-cuff plethysmography, was unaltered in DR (DR+HS, 127+/-3 mm Hg...

BACKGROUND Percutaneous edge-to-edge mitral valve repair (PMVR) has become an established treatment option for mitral regurgitation in patients not eligible for surgical repair. Currently, most procedures are performed under general anesthesia (GA). An increasing number of centers, however, are performing the procedure under deep sedation (DS). Here, we compared patients undergoing PMVR with GA...

Today, maintaining the quantity and quality of irrigation water are the most critical challenges in the agriculture system, especially in arid and semi-arid regions of the world. Accordingly, to evaluate the growth and yield responses of bread wheat (Sirvan cultivar) to different levels of deficit irrigation and water salinity, a factorial experiment was conducted in a randomized complete block...

Using e+e--->Ds*-Ds+ data collected near the peak Ds production energy, Ecm=4170 MeV, with the CLEO-c detector, we present the first observation of the decay Ds+-->pn. We measure a branching fraction B(Ds+-->pn)=(1.30+/-0.36(-0.16)+0.12)x10(-3). This is the first observation of a charmed meson decaying into a baryon-antibaryon final state.
