the use of quantum dots (qdots) as bright and photostable probes for long-term fluorescence imaging is gaining more interest. thus far, (pre)clinical use of qdots remains limited, which is primarily caused by the potential toxicity of qdots. most qdots consist of cd2+ ions, which are known to cause high levels of toxicity. therefore, the cytotoxic effects of cdse quantum dots on embryonic devel...

Since 1993, WHO has recommended a strategy through which national governments can meet their responsibility to treat patients and to prevent the spread of tuberculosis (TBI). Four of the major elements of the strategy, which came to be known as DOTS, were political commitment by governments, improved laboratory services, a continuous supply of good-quality drugs, and a reporting system to docum...

BACKGROUND WHO advocates the use of directly observed treatment with a short-course drug regimen as part of the DOTS strategy, but the potential effect of this strategy worldwide has not been investigated. METHODS We developed an age-structured mathematical model to explore the characteristics of tuberculosis control under DOTS, and to forecast the effect of improved case finding and cure on ...

abstract this study aimed at investigating the impact of etymology strategy instruction on the development of vocabulary of iranian intermediate efl learners. etymology, knowledge of origin of words, roots, and affixes, has proved to be a controversial issue and a question of long debate with regard to its impact on the process of vocabulary learning. this study employed etymology strategy in ...

Background Tuberculosis (TB) remains a significant global health problem, responsible for an estimated 1.7 million deaths per year worldwide [1]. Resistance to anti-tuberculosis drugs is an important threat to tuberculosis control. The risk of treatment failure and death with standard short-course chemotherapy is highest with resistance to both isoniazid and rifampicin (multidrug-resistant tube...

An ultra-sensitive detection strategy for prion protein is proposed based on the long range resonance energy transfer (LrRET) from quantum dots (QDs) to the surface of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), in which process energy donor-acceptor separation distance ranges from 9 to 22 nm.

A new "on-the-fly" chemical optical detection strategy based on the incorporation of fluorescence CdTe quantum dots (QDs) on the surface of self-propelled tubular micromotors is presented. The motion-accelerated binding of trace Hg to the QDs selectively quenches the fluorescence emission and leads to an effective discrimination between different mercury species and other co-existing ions.

OBJECTIVE To understand how national and provincial tuberculosis programme managers in Pakistan perceive and engage with the Stop TB strategy, its strengths, weaknesses and their experience in its implementation. National and provincial tuberculosis programme managers play an important role in effective implementation of the Stop TB strategy. DESIGN A qualitative interview study was conducted...

An efficient edge-functionalization strategy with high specificity was employed to study the effects of conjugated structures on photoluminescence (PL) properties of graphene quantum dots (GQDs). Both the experimental results and density functional theory (DFT)-based calculations suggested the mechanism for conjugated structures in GQDs to tune the band gap of GQDs.
