Bragg grating in a single-mode photosensitive polymer optical fiber (POF) with benzil dimethyl ketal (BDK)-doped in core has been inscribed through the Sagnac ring interference method. The Bragg wavelength of grating is about 1570nm. The stress and strain response of fiber Bragg grating (FBG) has been studied respectively. By fitting the experimental result, the strain sensitivity of FBG in POF...

In the article a novel construction of a side-detecting luminescent optical fiber for an UV sensor application has been presented. In the fiber, structure phosphate glass doped with 0.5 mol% Tb ions was used as a UV sensitive core/ribbon. The luminescence spectrum of glass and the optical fiber was measured under UV excitation using a deuterium lamp. It was found that large energy gap between u...

A diode-cladding-pumped mid-infrared passively Q-switched Ho-doped fluoride fiber laser using a reverse designed broad band semiconductor saturable mirror (SESAM) was demonstrated. Nonlinear reflectivity of the SESAM was measured using an in-house Yb-doped mode-locked fiber laser at 1062 nm. Stable pulse train was produced at a slope efficient of 12.1% with respect to the launched pump power. M...

We report on a narrowband 5 W cw fiber laser incorporating a point-by-point fiber Bragg grating inscribed into the core of a Yb(3+)-doped double-clad fiber. The laser featured excellent long-term wavelength and power stability (0.3%), as well as a very narrow (15 pm) linewidth, when passive temperature stabilization of the grating was implemented.

Erbium doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA) are most commonly used in optical networks for the most assorted applications. The fast power transient effect of the cascaded erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA) in 45 channels optical ring network is investigated. The power transient effect of EDFA’s are observed when channels are added and dropped. It is shown that, for low channel adding/dropping freque...

The capability of Tm-doped silica fibers pumped at 790nm to efficiently produce high power emission in the 1.9~2.1μm region has been well documented to date but little has been presented on the reliability of this technology. Early experiments highlighted that photodarkening can be a significant concern when Tm-doped silica fibers are exposed to high intensity blue light. We present a discussio...

Saturable absorption in bismuth-doped glasses was found to have a noticeable influence on soliton interaction and group formation. This phenomenon, observed in 1450 nm mode-locked bismuth-doped fiber laser, shows the distinct feature of the multiple pulse regime, which appears as a stationary pulse group whose length can be spread over the whole cavity length by variation of the pump power and ...

We demonstrate a few-mode erbium-doped fiber amplifier employing a mode-selective photonic lantern for controlling the modal content of the pump light. Amplification of six spatial modes in a 5 m long erbium-doped fiber to ∼6.2  dBm average power is obtained while maintaining high modal fidelity. Through mode-selective forward pumping of the two degenerate LP21 modes operating at 976...
