Culture A58365.1, NRRL 15098, identified as a new strain of Streptomyces chromofuscus, was found to produce two novel angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, A58365A and A58365B. Fermentation medium studies afforded an increase in ACE inhibitor titers from less than 1 microgram/ml to greater than 20 micrograms/ml. Proline was the obligatory supplement for ACE inhibitor biosynthesis.

Isoaspartyl dipeptidase from Escherichia coli functions in protein degradation by catalyzing the hydrolysis of beta-L-isoaspartyl linkages in dipeptides. The best substrate for the enzyme reported thus far is iso-Asp-Leu. Here we report the X-ray analysis of the enzyme in its resting state and complexed with aspartate to 1.65 and 2.1 A resolution, respectively. The quaternary structure of the e...

The glycosyl-phosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchor mediates the apical sorting of proteins in polarised epithelial cells through its interaction with lipid rafts. Here we investigated the signals required for the apical targeting of the naturally N-glycosylated and GPI-anchored membrane dipeptidase by selective point mutation to remove the GPI anchor addition signal or the sites for N-linked glycos...

Studies on the development of enzyme systems with time in animal embryos are relatively rare. Especially is this true of the chick embryo, of which the only complete study of enzyme development appears in the work of Levy and Palmer (1) on dipeptidase accumulation. According to these authors, dipeptidase activity in the chick increases with time and this increase is correlated with the accumula...
