As new technologies emerge such as wearables, it opens up for new challenges, especially related to security and privacy. One such recent technology is smart glasses. The use of glasses introduces security and privacy concerns for the general public but also for the user itself. In this talk we present ongoing work which focus on privacy of the user during authentication. We propose and analyze...
In the fly Drosophila melanogaster, neuronal plasticity of synaptic terminals in the first optic neuropil, or lamina, depends on early visual experience within a critical period after eclosion. The current study revealed two additional and parallel mechanisms involved in this type of synaptic terminal plasticity. First, an endogenous circadian rhythm causes daily oscillations in the volume of p...
We describe an implemented system for touching 3D objects depicted in visual images using a two dimensional, force-re ecting haptic interface. The system constructs 3D geometric models from real 2D stereo images. The force feedback at each position is computed to provide the sensation of moving a small ball over the surface of the 3D object.
The interdisciplinary field of image sonification aims at the transformation of images to auditory signals. It brings together researchers from different fields of computer science like sound synthesizing, data mining and human computer interaction. Its goal is the use of sound and all its attributes to display the data sets itself and thus making the highly developed human aural system usable ...
A study of maritime surveillance operations revealed that visual analytics could enable better maritime situation analysis. For that purpose, we designed the Maritime Visual Analytics Prototype, which is detailed in this demo paper. It supports the detection of marine anomalies and the detailed analysis of vessels of interest through a series of specialized tools. First, the Analysis Set Manage...
This special issue of the International Journal of Occupational Safety and Ergonomics (JOSE) reports the results from an extensive multinational and multidisciplinary collaborative investigation of the impacts on visual display terminal (VDT) work of musculoskeletal, visual, ergonomic, and psychosocial factors. For brevity, this effort has been referred to as the MEPS project (musculoskeletal--...
