We introduce a small-core air-guiding photonic crystal fiber whose cladding is made of improved air-silica photonic crystal with non-circular air holes placed in triangular lattice. The fiber achieves un-disturbed bandgap guidance over 350nm wavelength range.

Lattice energy calculations using a model potential were performed to model the crystal structures of cis-1,2,3,6- and 3,4,5,6-tetrahydrophthalic (THP) anhydrides. The optimized molecular models using the DFT method at the B3LYP/6-31G** level were found consistent with the available experimental evidence and allowed all differences observed in crystal packing between cis-1,2,3,6- and 3,4,5,6-TH...

Some recent neutron scattering works on CeRhIn5 and Ce2RhIn8, together with related resistivity and specific heat measurements, are summarized. In spite of its layered crystal structure, CeRhIn5 is shown to be 3 dimensional both magnetically and in transport. We also find that the Fisher-Langer behavior is closely followed in CeRhIn5. This may circumvent the Kondo lattice model and support appl...

We study vortex lattice structures of a trapped Bose-Einstein condensate in a rotating lattice potential by numerically solving the time-dependent GrossPitaevskii equation. By rotating the lattice potential, we observe the transition from the Abrikosov vortex lattice to the pinned lattice. We investigate the transition of the vortex lattice structure by changing conditions such as angular veloc...

A b s t r a c t . Crystal lattices are infinite periodic graphs that occur naturally in a variety of geometries and which are of fundamental importance in polymer science. Discrete models of protein folding use crystal lattices to define the space of protein conformations. Because various crystal lattices provide discretizations of the same physical phenomenon, it is reasonable to expect that t...

Sr6Nb10O30–Nb2O5 nanocomposite was synthesized in 2M NaOH aqueous solution. A stoichiometric 1:1 Sr:Nb molar ratio hydrothermal method at 120°C was used to synthesize this nanocomposite. Sr(NO3)2 and Nb2O5 were used as raw materials. The synthesized nanomaterials were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) technique. It was found that Sr6Nb10O30 was crystallized in tetragonal crystal ...

A novel photonic crystal lattice is proposed for trapping a two-dimensional array of particles. The lattice is created by introducing a rectangular slot in each unit cell of the Suzuki-Phase lattice to enhance the light confinement of guided resonance modes. Large quality factors on the order of 10⁵ are predicted in the lattice. A significant decrease of the optical power required for optical t...

Lattice strain is generated in crystal structures as a result of atomic size differences between host atom and solute elements during substitutional alloying. Extensive work has been performed to study lattice parameter variation with alloying elements, primarily using diffraction methods. The global information provided by reciprocal space analysis, however, limits access to local structural d...

We describe effects of anisotropy caused by the crystal lattice in d-wave superconductors with s-wave mixing using the effective free energy approach. Only the d-wave order parameter field d is introduced, while the effect of the s wave mixing as well as other effects breaking the rotational symmetry down to the fourfold symmetry of the crystal are represented by a single four (covariant) deriv...

Experimentally observed self-organization of a 2D lattice on the surface of Ge single crystal after irradiation by pulsed YAG:Nd laser is reported. The 2D lattice consists of nano-size elevations arranged in a pattern of C6i point group symmetry and is characterized by translational symmetry with the period of 1μm. Calculations of time-dependent distribution of temperature in the bulk of the Ge...
