A two-beam random interferometer is demonstrated where coupling is facilitated by a scattering medium. A modulation observed in the normalized second-order intensity frequency correlation of the transmitted light is attributed to the relative temporal delay of the two beams and is insensitive to beam alignment and spacing.

The ball and beam system is a laboratory equipment with high nonlinearity in its dynamics. The aims of this research are to model the ball and beam system considering nonlinear factors and coupling effect and to design controllers to control the ball position. The LQR is designed considering two Degrees-of-Freedom and

We call piezoelectromechanical (PEM) truss beam a truss modular beam coupled with a transmission electrical line when the coupling is obtained by piezoelectric actuators which act as bars in the module and as capacitances in the electrical line. The truss module length is assumed negligible with respect to the considered wave lengths. The transmission electrical line is assumed continuously dis...

We present a comparative study of numerical simulations and experiments on the spatiotemporal dynamics and emission characteristics of quantum-well and quantum-dot lasers of identical structure. They show that, in the quantum-dot laser, the strong localization of carrier inversion and the small amplitude–phase coupling enable a significant improvement of beam quality compared to quantum-well la...

When a laser beam scatters from a microparticle whose shape deviates from that of a sphere, a number of partial waves of the incident beam couple to a given partial wave of the scattered and interior fields. As a result, partial-wave coupling caused by small surface irregularities of a liquid droplet provides the mechanism for exciting low-radial-order morphology-dependent resonances.

Coupling shear wall has been highly considered in recent years. Due to architectural limitations, sometimes the architect is forced to use two spans separate from shear wall. The study results have shown that using coupling shear wall will have better results than single wall in structure behavior and the desired performance can be achieved by using thinner plates. Coupling steel shear wall has...

Reinforced concrete coupled walls are a common lateral load resisting system used in multi-storey buildings. The effect of the coupling beams can improve seismic performance, but at the same time adds complexity to the design procedure. A case study coupled wall building is designed using Force-Based Design (FBD) and Direct Displacement-Based Design (DDBD) and in the case of the latter a step b...

We investigate use of transverse beam polarization in probing anomalous coupling of a Higgs boson to a pair of vector bosons, at the International Linear Collider (ILC). We consider the most general form of V V H (V = W/Z) vertex consistent with Lorentz invariance and investigate its effects on the process ee → f f̄H, f being a light fermion. Constructing observables with definite CP and naive t...

We examine the flexural deformation and snap-through instability of a pre-buckled ferroelastomer beam. The beam is composed of ferromagnetic and electrically conductive microparticles suspended in a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) matrix. Bending and snapthrough are controlled remotely with an external magnetic field. The observed magnetoflexural coupling is in reasonable agreement with predictions...

We demonstrated low-loss and single-mode laser beam delivery through hollow-core waveguides (HCWs) operating in the 3.7-7.6 μm spectral range. The employed HCWs have a circular cross section with a bore diameter of 200 μm and metallic/dielectric internal coatings deposited inside a glass capillary tube. The internal coatings have been produced to enhance the spectral response of the HCWs in the...
