The term bioremediation describes biological machinery of recycling wastes to make them harmless and useful to some extent. Bioremediation is the most proficient tool to manage the polluted environment and recover contaminated river water.  Bioremediation is very much involved in the degradation, eradication, restriction, or reclamation varied chemical and physical hazardous substances from the...

Recent epidemiological studies have reported adverse health effects, including skin cancer, due to low concentrations of arsenic via drinking water. We conducted a study to assess whether low arsenic contaminated ground water affected health of the residents who consumed it. For precise biomonitoring results, the inorganic (trivalent arsenite (As III) and pentavalent arsenate (As V)) and organi...

BACKGROUND Dental unit waterline system is considered potential source for contamination with Legionella species. The aim of this study was to determine if contamination of a dental unit water line system by Legionella pneumophila serogroup1 in the Mashhad School of Dentistry occurred in 2009. METHODS A total of 52 dental units were selected from all clinical departments of the Mashhad School...

Phytoremediation technology is emerging as a promising environment-friendly method for large-scale cleanup of arsenic (As) contaminated water and soil. In this study we investigated the effect of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF Glomus spp.) on the growth of the vetiver grass (Chrysopogon zizanioides L.) and its As uptake from contaminated hydroponic and soil systems. An ameliorative effect of...

A simple flow-through system has been developed which makes use of wasted heat generated in traditional clay ovens (chullis) to pasteurize surface water. A hollow aluminium coil is built into the clay chulli, and water is passed through the coil during normal cooking events. By adjusting the flow rate, effluent temperature can be maintained at approximately 70 degrees C. Laboratory testing, alo...

Contamination of distilled water with free and bound amino acids and with microbes has been overlooked in most laboratories.Unless special precautions are taken, distilledwater will be contaminated with airborne microbes, probably psuedomoriads, which multiply in water of conductivity quality. Amino acids and proteins that may be found in the water therefore presumably are derived from these ai...

In 2013, an oropharyngeal tularemia outbreak in Turkey affected 55 persons. Drinking tap water during the likely exposure period was significantly associated with illness (attack rate 27% vs. 11% among non-tap water drinkers). Findings showed the tap water source had been contaminated by surface water, and the chlorination device malfunctioned.

Laboratory studies suggest that substantial amounts of polychlorinated biphenyls are rapidly volatilized from wet contaminated solids during water evaporation. If significant losses also occur during field activities, potential analytical, global, and health implications should be considered in the design and monitoring of remedial actions and the handling of contaminated solids.

RATIONALE The treatment of choice for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is nasal continuous positive airway pressure (nCPAP) during sleep, but dryness of the upper airway compromises compliance. Heated humidifiers may mitigate such noncompliance; however, recent observations suggest that their use, particularly if not cleaned, increases the risk of respiratory infections. Humidifier water may be co...

Anomalous surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) peaks are identified for liquid sample stored in polypropylene centrifuge tubes (PP tube) for months. We observed the unexpected Raman peaks during experiments for Thiamine Hydrochloride aqueous solution stored in PP tube for two months. In order to identify the contaminants we have performed SERS experiments for de-ionized water (DI water) sto...
