Background: The aim of the present study was to examine factors that may affect the outcome of testis tissue xenografting. Recipient factors were examined by grafting small fragments of testis tissue from newborn piglets under the back skin of immunodeficient mice of different strains [severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) vs. nude), sex (male vs. female) and gonadal status (intact vs. gonade...

Marginal tissue recession is a common esthetic problem that is usually accompanied by dentin sensitivity, and patients frequently report a fear of dental loss. Lateral sliding flaps have been used for localized recession, but they are rarely used for multiple recessions. The aim of this paper was to report a case of coverage of multiple marginal tissue recessions by means of a lateral sliding f...

PURPOSE To review the radiology and histology of synthetic bone grafts resected from patients with recurrent giant cell tumour (GCT) of bone. METHODS 22 patients underwent curettage and grafting for GCT of bone using autogenous cancellous bone mixed with apatite-wollastonite-containing glass ceramic (AWGC), hydroxyapatite (HA), or a mixture of HA and tricalcium phosphate (TCP). Patients were ...

Recent progress in cell transplantation therapy to repair impaired hearts has encouraged further attempts to bioengineer 3-dimensional (3-D) heart tissue from cultured cardiomyocytes. Cardiac tissue engineering is currently pursued utilizing conventional technology to fabricate 3-D biodegradable scaffolds as a temporary extracellular matrix. By contrast, new methods are now described to fabrica...

If the clinical goal of the periodontal plastic surgery is the complete root coverage of gingival recessions, then the microscopically goal standard is to obtain a true periodontal regeneration. Only the histological examination can reveal cellular events unrolled into the grafted tissue-root surface interface and the nature of the clinically observed attachment. To our knowledge, there are no ...

Mucogingival surgery is a plastic surgical procedure designed to correct defects in the morphology, position, and dimensions of the gingiva surrounding the teeth. Many surgical techniques have been reported in mucogingival surgery. Since these procedures also include the soft tissue esthetic approach, the term “periodontal plastic surgery” has been proposed to be more appropriate. 1 Root covera...

A myriad of orthopaedic injuries require surgical fixation of torn connective tissue to an osseous insertion site with either direct repair or reconstruction with a soft-tissue graft. Numerous factors influence the strength of a soft-tissue-to-bone fixation construct, including tissue quality, implant strength, contact area and pressure, and tensioning. Each fixation technique differs with resp...
