The dye for the excretory function test of the liver has been investi gated by many authors, and methylenblue (MB), indigocarmine (IC), congo red (CR), phenoltetrachlorphthalein (PTCP), azorubin S (AS), rose bengal (RS) and bromsulphalein (BS) had been used as the dye for the test. Moreover, we1) added recently bromphenolblue (BPB) to these as a new dye. In this paper, I examined experimentally...

To develop a direct microbial sugar conversion platform for the production of lipids, drop-in fuels and chemicals from cellulosic biomass substrate, we chose Yarrowia lipolytica as a viable demonstration strain. Y. lipolytica is known to accumulate lipids intracellularly and is capable of metabolizing sugars to produce lipids; however, it lacks the lignocellulose-degrading enzymes needed to bre...

Sixty-two patients affected by MGUS underwent fat tissue aspirate examination for diagnosis of AL amyloidosis. Nine out of the 62 were found to be Congo red positive. MGUS had already been diagnosed for quite a long time in about 60% of these patients, while this prevalence decreased to 24% among the Congo red negative patients. The follow-up of the positive patients is reported.

Congo red inhibits the accumulation of protease-resistant PrP in scrapie-infected mouse neuroblastoma cells. Here we show that Congo red also inhibits the replication of scrapie infectivity in these cells. This observation is consistent with the idea that protease-resistant PrP is a vital component of the scrapie agent or that agent replication depends on the presence of protease-resistant PrP ...

Twenty avian Escherichia coli isolates from normal and diseased chickens were compared by use of three virulence tests. These tests included the uptake of Congo red dye, an embryo lethality test, and a quantitative microtiter complement resistance test. A direct correlation was seen between the results of the complement resistance test and the embryo lethality test. The results of the Congo red...

Incomplete vagotomy is the single most common cause of ulcer recurrence. Completeness of vagotomy was assessed postoperatively in 17 patients using the congo red test. Various types of vagotomies included truncal vagotomy and gastrojejenostomy in 6, highly selective vagotomy in 5, truncal vagotomy and pyloroplasty in 3 and selective vagotomy with gastrojejenostomy in 3 cases. Congo red test was...

The pigmentation (pgm) locus is a large unstable area of the Yersinia pestis chromosome composed of a segment of iron acquisition (HPI) linked to a pigmentation segment. In this work we examined the mobility of HPI and the pigmentation segment in three Y. pestis isolates using successive subcultures on Congo red agar (CRA) plates. Strain P. CE 882 was shown to be highly stable while strains P. ...

The present paper investigates cellulose degrading bacteria present in kitchen waste for highest cellulase activity and growth of bacteria at optimum temperature and pH. Sample was collected from domestic kitchen waste and bacterial strains were isolated using nutrient agar media. Enrichment technique was used for isolating CDB (cellulose degrading bacteria) strains. The objective of research w...

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is the most commonly acquired bacterial infection. Antibiotic resistance of uropathogens has been known to increase worldwide and biofilm production being the prime cause. The objective of this study was to detect the production of biofilm by uropathogens isolated from UTIs and their antimicrobial susceptibility pattern. A total 570 urine samples from clinically su...

Oxacillin-resistant Staphylococcus haemolyticus (ORSH) was found as the most prevalent (77.5%) species of coagulase-negative staphylococci associated with bacteremia in neonates making use of intravenous catheters in an intensive care unit of a Brazilian teaching hospital. Thirty-one blood isolates were confirmed as S. haemolyticus by sequencing of the 16S and clustered in 6 pulsed-field gel el...
