Staphylococcus chromogenes is one of the main coagulase-negative staphylococci isolated from mastitis of dairy cows. We describe S. chromogenes isolates that can clot plasma. Since the main pathogen causing mastitis is coagulase-positive Staphylococcus aureus, the coagulase-positive phenotype of S. chromogenes described here can easily lead to misidentification.
Aerobic In clusters ● Coagulase (+): Staphylococcus. aureus ● Coagulase (-):Staphylococcus lugdunensis or other coagulase-negative Staphylococcus In pairs/chains ● Optochin sensitive: Streptococcus pneumoniae ● Alpha-hemolytic: Viridans group Streptococcus, Enterococcus species ● Beta-hemolytic: ○ Group A Strep (Streptococcus pyogenes) ○ Group B Strep (Streptococcus agalactiae) ○ Group C, D, G ...
Background The remarkable ability of Staphylococcus aureus to acquire mobile genetic elements that carry virulence and antibiotic resistance genes, contributes to its success, pathogenicity and evolution. There is indirect evidence that methicillinresistant S. aureus (MRSA) clones arose from genetic transfer of staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec) from Staphylococcus epidermidis and ...
Small-colony variants (SCVs) of Staphylococcus aureus cause persistent and relapsing infections. Relatively little is known regarding infections caused by SCVs of coagulase-negative staphylococci. We report two cases of pacemaker electrode infections due to SCVs of Staphylococcus epidermidis and Staphylococcus capitis. Sequence analysis of a portion of the 16S rRNA gene (16S rDNA) confirmed the...
Staphylococcus aureus is a Gram-positive, round-shaped bacterium that member of the Firmicutes. It often positive for catalase and nitrate reduction. Pathogenic strains promote infections by producing virulence factors such as potent protein toxins, expression cell-surface binds inactivates antibodies. Sepsis-related to methicillin-resistant S. (MRSA) has significant morbidity high mortality ra...
Background and aim: Staphylococcus aureus can colonizes variety of body sites such as skin, coetaneous membrane and especially anterior nares. The coagulase gene (coa) typing is a technique in which the organism is typed based on the polymorphic region of the coa gene. The aim of the present study was to determine the coa based typing of S. aureus isolates from health care workers in two teach...
One thousand and thirty-five clinical isolates of the genus staphylococcus were used to compare the coagulase test with the deoxyribonuclease (DNase) and heat-stable nuclease tests as methods for identifying Staphylococcus aureus. Conflicting results were obtained with 65 isolates when the coagulase test was compared with the DNase test but with only one isolate when the coagulase test was comp...

BBL ™ CHROMagar ™ MRSA (CMRSA) is a selective and differential medium designed for the direct detection of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) from nares specimens. CMRSA incorporates specific chromogenic substrates and cefoxitin to facilitate the detection of MRSA. Identification is considered definitive following 24 h incubation; however, confirmatory testing, such as coagulase...
