The control of photofragmentation and ionization in a polyatomic molecule has been studied by femtosecond chirped laser pulse excitation and velocity map photoelectron and ion imaging. The experiments aimed at controlling and investigating the photodynamics in CH(2)BrCl using tunable chirped femtosecond pulses in the visible wavelength region 509-540 nm at maximum intensities of about 4x10(13) ...

LLE Review, Volume 111 135 Introduction Laser–matter interactions in new regimes have occurred due to the generation of high-intensity optical pulses using largescale laser systems.1 The interaction regime of a laser pulse with a target is basically set by the peak intensity of the pulse, which is fundamentally proportional to the ratio of the pulse energy to the duration of the pulse and surfa...

We demonstrate a robust and versatile solution for locking the continuous-wave dye laser for applications in laser cooling of molecules which need linewidth-narrowed and frequency-stabilized lasers. The dye laser is first stabilized with respect to a reference cavity by Pound-Drever-Hall (PDH) technique which results in a single frequency with the linewidth 200 kHz and short-term stabilization,...

The design and performance of a flash-lamp-pumped regenerative amplifier that utilizes the new laser material Cr:LiSrAlF(6) is described. The device can be used for tunable and/or short-pulse amplification to the 10-mJ level at a repetition rate of 10 Hz. Using chirped-pulse amplification, we have achieved 8-mJ pulses with a duration of 150 fs.

Existing technologies for quantifying methane emissions are often limited to single point sensors, making large area environmental observations challenging. We demonstrate the operation of a remote, multi-path system using Chirped Laser Dispersion Spectroscopy (CLaDS) for quantification of atmospheric methane concentrations over extended areas, a technology that shows potential for monitoring e...

We have developed a compact flash-lamp-pumped Cr:LiSrAlF(6) (Cr:LiSAF) laser system capable of producing peak powers in excess of 1 TW. Chirped-pulse amplification in a Cr:LiSAF regenerative amplifier produces 8-mJ pulses at a 5-Hz repetition rate. Further amplification in Cr:LiSAF yields recompressed pulse energies of 150 mJ and a pulse duration <135 fs at a 0.5-Hz repetition rate.

The optical layout of soft X-ray grating compressors designed to provide both positive and negative group-delay dispersion (GDD) is discussed. They are tailored for chirped-pulse-amplification experiments with seeded free-electron laser sources. Designs with plane or concave gratings are discussed, depending on the sign of the GDD to be introduced.

Abstract In this manuscript we present a true pulse-on-demand laser design concept using two different approaches. First, fiber master oscillator power amplifier (MOPA) based quasi-continuous wave (CW) laser, working at high modulation bandwidths, for generation of nanosecond pulses. Second, hybrid chirped pulse amplification (CPA)-based combining chirped-pulse and an additional solid-state amp...
