Studies of the organic anion transporters (Oats) have focused mainly on their interactions with organic anionic substrates. However, as suggested when Oat1 was originally identified as NKT (Lopez-Nieto, C. E., You, G., Bush, K. T., Barros, E. J., Beier, D. R., and Nigam, S. K. (1997) J. Biol. Chem. 272, 6471-6478), since the Oats share close homology with organic cation transporters (Octs), it ...

Several xenobiotic (organic cation and anion) transporters have recently been identified, although their endogenous substrates, if such exist, remain unknown. When we initially identified NKT, also known as OAT1, the first member of the organic anion transporter (OAT) family (Lopez-Nieto CE, You G, Bush KT, Barros EJ, Beier DR, and Nigam SK. J Biol Chem 272: 6471-6478, 1997), we noted its expre...

The functional properties of alternatively spliced isoforms of the mouse apical Na+-K+-2Cl-cotransporter (mBSC1) were examined, using expression in Xenopus oocytes and measurement of22Na+or86Rb+uptake. A total of six isoforms, generated by the combinatorial association of three 5' exon cassettes (A, B, and F) with two alternative 3' ends, are expressed in mouse thick ascending limb (TAL) [see c...

We present a new terrain decimation technique called a Quadtree Morph, or Q-morph. The new approach eliminates the usual popping artifacts associated with polygon reduction, replacing them with less objectionable smooth morphing. We show that Q-morphing is fast enough to create a view-dependent terrain model for each frame in an interactive environment. In contrast to most Geomorph algorithms, ...
