We present a new approach to the covariant canonical formulation of EinsteinCartan gravity that preserves the full Lorentz group as the local gauge group. The method exploits lessons learned from gravity in 2+1 dimensions regarding the relation between gravity and a general gauge theory. The dynamical variables are simply the frame field and the spin-connection pulled-back to the hypersurface, ...

Quantum gravity in 2+1 dimensions with a positive cosmological constant can be represented as an SL(2,C) Chern-Simons gauge theory. The symmetric vacuum of this theory is a degenerate configuration for which the gauge fields and spacetime metric vanish, while de Sitter space corresponds to a highly excited thermal state. Carlip’s approach to black hole entropy can be adapted in this context to ...

We use the Einstein energy-momentum complex to calculate the energy distribution of static plane-symmetric solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell equations in 3+1 dimensions with asymptotic anti-de Sitter behavior. These are expressed in terms of the ADM mass density, charge density and cosmological constant.

In the present paper, electrical energy harvesting from random vibrations of an Euler-Bernoulli nano-beam with two piezoelectric layers is investigated. The beam is composed of an aluminum layer together with two piezoelectric ceramic layers (PZT 5A) serving as energy harvesting sensors. In the proposed method, the equations governing the bimorph nano-beam will be analytically derived using cla...

A Bernoulli random walk is a random trajectory starting from 0 and having i.i.d. increments, each of them being +1 or −1, equally likely. The other families quoted in the title are Bernoulli random walks under various conditions. A peak in a trajectory is a local maximum. In this paper, we condition the families of trajectories to have a given number of peaks. We show that, asymptotically, the ...

We reformulate free equations of motion for massive spin 0 and spin 1/2 matter fields in 2+1 dimensional anti-de Sitter space in the form of some covariant constantness conditions. The infinite-dimensional representation of the anti-de Sitter algebra underlying this formulation is shown to admit a natural realization in terms of the algebra of deformed oscillators with a deformation parameter r...

The κ-deformation of the 2+1 anti-de Sitter, Poincaré and de Sitter groups is studied within a unified approach by considering explicitly the curvature of the spacetime (cosmological constant) as a parameter. The Drinfel’d-double construction as well as the Poisson–Lie structure underlying the κ-deformation are explicitly given, and the three quantum groups are obtained as Weyl quantizations of...

Introduction. Consider on the one hand a separable Brownian motion (Wiener process) X(t), 0^t< «>, with A(0) = 0, and on the other a classical random walk S(n) = E"-i -^<> 1 a« < °°, where Xi, X2, • • • is a sequence of Bernoulli trials with probability 1/2 for A,= +1 and for A,= — 1. It is well known that for the sequence of processes Rk(t), l^k<<», defined by the formula 74(0 = 2~kS([22"t]), ...
