The production ofD s relative toD + s as a function of xF with 600 GeV/c Σ − beam is measured in the interval 0.15 < xF < 0.7 by the SELEX (E781) experiment at Fermilab. The integrated charge asymmetries with 600 GeV/c Σ beam (0.53±0.06) and π beam (0.06 ± 0.11) are also compared. The results show the Σ beam fragments play a role in the production of D s , as suggested by the leading quark model.
We give conditions which, given two Bernoulli trial measures, determine whether there exists a homeomorphism of Cantor space which sends one measure to the other, answering a question of Oxtoby. We then provide examples, relating these results to the notions of good and refinable measures
As the beam propagates in the University of Maryland Electron Ring (UMER) complex transverse density structure including halos has been observed. A primary objective of the experiment is to understand the evolution of a space-charge-dominated beam as it propagates over a substantial distance. It is therefore important to understand which details of the beam structure result from propagation of ...
The use of machine modeling and beam simulation programs for the control of accelerator operation has become standard practice. The success of a model-based control operation depends on how the parameter to be controlled is measured, how the measured data is analyzed, how the result of the analysis is interpreted, and how a solution is implemented. There is considerable interest in applying exp...
We find a Selberg zeta function expression of certain one-loop spin partition functions on three-dimensional thermal anti-de Sitter space. Of particular interest is the partition function of higher spin fermionic particles. We also set up, in the presence of spin, a Patterson-type formula involving the logarithmic derivative of zeta.
A survey of beam instruments used at SLAC in the SLC machine is presented. The basic utility and operation of each device is briefly described. The various beam instruments [l] used at the Stanford Linear Collider (SLC), [2,3] can be classified by the function they perform. Beam intensity, position and size are typical of the parameters of beam which are measured. Each type of parameter is impo...
We present a modal theory of self-trapping spatially incoherent light beams in any general nonlinear media. We find that a self-trapped incoherent beam induces a multimode waveguide which guides the beam itself by multiply populating the guided modes. The self-trapping process alters the statistics of the incoherent beam, rendering it localized. We find the conditions for self-trapping (“existe...
[ To review the link between inflammation and increased vascularity and blood flow of the airways, and exhaled breath temperature. [ To position exhaled breath temperature (EBT) as a physiological characteristic differing from core temperature measured at other body sites. [ To review the existing experience about measuring EBT in different disease states of the respiratory system. [ To emphasi...
Background and Objective: Hypothyroidism is a known consequence of the external beam radiotherapy to the neck encompassing the thyroid gland for over 40 years. The aim of this study was to find out the incidence of hypothyroidism in patients with head and neck cancer treated with radiotherapy, when radia...
We study how two moduli can be stabilized in a Minkowski/de Sitter vacuum for a wide class of string-inspired Supergravity models with an effective Fayet-like Supersymmetry breaking. It is shown under which conditions this mechanism can be made natural and how it can give rise to an interesting spectrum of soft masses, with a relatively small mass difference between scalar and gaugino masses. I...
