Antrochoanal polyp is an infrequent nasal mass and is uncommon in elderly people. The case is presented of a 65-year-old man who developed a giant antrochoanal polyp which blocked the right maxillary sinus, nasal cavity, nasopharynx, oropharynx and hypopharynx. Endoscopic removal of the polyp as well as the base of the polyp was performed.
Introduction: Angiectatic nasal polyp (ANP) is a rare entity of inflammatory sinonasal polyp, constituting 4 to 5% of all nasal polyps.1 An angiomatous polyp originates from a sinochoanal polyp, either an antrochoanal or a sphenochoanal polyp. Their hallmark feature is extensive vascular proliferation and ectasia with deposition of pseudoamyloid and the presence of atypical stromal cells. This ...
OBJECTIVES Temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD) are often associated with aural manifestations. However, it is not clear whether aural fullness could be induced by TMD. The purpose was to investigate the TMD and effectiveness of TMD treatments in patients with mainly or exclusively aural fullness complaint. METHODS One hundred and twelve patients, who had aural fullness as the main or sole...
BACKGROUND Pre-existing polyps, especially large polyps, are known to be the major source for colorectal cancer, but there is limited available information about factors that are associated with polyp size and polyp growth. We aim to determine factors associated with polyp size in different age groups. METHODS Colonoscopy data were prospectively collected from 67 adult gastrointestinal practi...
A 59-year-old man was admitted to the Beijing Friendship Hospital with progressive dysphagia for solid foods. He had been coughing for 20 days, which resulted in the repeat regurgitation of the polyp into his mouth followed by swallowing of the polyp [1]. Results of laboratory tests on admission were negative. Endoscopy revealed a large polyp stalk protruding into the lumen from Killian’s trian...
Heat treatment is a simple technique for releasing polyphosphate (polyP) from microbial cells. We investigated the ultrastructural alterations of polyP granules (PPGs) in response to heat treatment at 70 degrees C using a polyP-accumulating phoU mutant of Escherichia coli as a model organism. Electron microscopic and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis suggested concurrent occurrence of PPG degrad...
A 65−year−old man was referred to our de− partment for polypectomy. A polyp, 20 mm in diameter, was found in the as− cending colon on colonoscopy (Figure1 a). The polyp surface was covered by charac− teristic multiple dimples, long thin ves− sels, and mucus. Chromoendoscopy with 0.4% indigo carmine enhanced the ap− pearance of the polyp surface dimples, and subsequent magnification revealed a t...
Background: Vocal abuse and misuse would result in vocal fold polyp. Certain features define the extent of vocal folds polyp effects on voice acoustic parameters. The present study aimed to define the effects of polyp size on acoustic voice parameters, and compare these parameters in hemorrhagic and non-hemorrhagic polyps. Methods: In the present retrospective study, 28 individuals with hemorrha...
Background and purpose: Colorectal cancer is one of the most common types of cancers worldwide. Most of the times it is superimposed on an adenomatous polyp. Today, colonoscopy is the gold standard screening test for diagnosis of colorectal cancer which prevents developing cancer on the adenocarcinoma sequence path way. The goal of this study was to evaluate the gross and microscopic characteri...
