The photocatalytic efficiency of a thin-film TiO2-coated nanostructured template is studied by dye degradation in water. The nanostructured template was synthesized by metal-assisted wet etching of Si and used as substrate for the deposition of a thin film of TiO2 (10 nm thick) by atomic layer deposition. A complete structural characterization was made by scanning and transmission electron micr...

B and N K-edge x-ray absorption spectroscopy measurements have been performed on three BN thin films grown on Si substrates using ion-assisted pulsed laser deposition. Comparison of the films’ spectra to those of several single-phase BN powder standards shows that the films consist primarily of sp bonds. Other features in the films’ spectra suggest the presence of secondary phases, possibly cub...

BACKGROUND Recent advances in stent technology have allowed for negotiation of often tortuous posterior circulation intracranial vasculature. Stent-assisted coil embolization is a novel treatment for complex wide-necked aneurysms, as stents provide a buttress that allows for coil deposition while preventing coil herniation into the parent vessel lumen. We describe a case of stent-assisted coil ...

-In this work, a vibrating search algorithm is applied to design a normal-incidence broadband visible antireflection (AR) coating on the flexible Polyethersulfone (PES) substrate, and then AR coats PES using ion-assisted deposition (IAD). The average visible spectral reflectivities of calculated and experimental AR performances are reduced to below 0.321 and 0.327%, respectively, revealing very...

This study represents a review of deposition of polyethylene oxide-like thin films by means of low pressure plasma discharges. Current state-of-the-art is discussed and novel approach based on plasma assisted vacuum thermal degradation is introduced together with the first experimental results reached using this technique.

Two closely related mononuclear homoleptic indium-tris-guanidinate complexes have been synthesized and characterized as precursors for atomic layer deposition (ALD) of In2O3. In a water assisted ALD process, high quality In2O3 thin films have been fabricated for the first time using the new class of precursors as revealed by the promising ALD growth characteristics and film properties.

A generalized approach for the fabrication of core/shell heteronanostructures through a simple chemical bath deposition method assisted by the bridging of SiO(2) spacer has been developed and a slow heterogeneous nucleation mechanism identified as the key to the success of this method.

An ultrasound-assisted, precipitation-deposition method has been developed to synthesise visible-light-responsive BiOBr-ZnFe(2)O(4) heterojunction photocatalysts. The heterojunctions with suitable BiOBr/ZnFe(2)O(4) ratios have a fascinating micro-spherical morphology and exhibit exceptional photocatalytic activity in visible-light degradation of Rhodamine B.

Ultrathin epitaxial superconducting NbN (18 nm) films, exhibiting a superconducting transition temperature of 14 K and a critical current density as high as 5.2 MA cm(-2) at 5 K under zero magnetic field, were grown on SrTiO(3) (STO) by a chemical solution technique, polymer assisted deposition (PAD).
