OBJECTIVES The aim of the study was to evaluate early and mid-term results of surgical repair of isolated iliac artery aneurysm (IAA) in patients with non aneurysmal abdominal aorta. METHODS From January 1996 to December 2006, 34 patients with IAA had elective surgery. In 32 cases open repair was performed. Two patients had endovascular repair using a tube endoprosthesis and internal iliac ar...
Fig. 2. (A) With anulo-aortic ectasia and severe aortic insufficiency, pulmonary artery valve displasia and severe insufficiency, pulmonary artery ectasia, the patient underwent a surgical intervention. Ascending aorta (Ao) and pulmonary artery trunk (PA) were exposed by median sternotomy. (B) Ascending aorta aneurysm and aortic valve were replaced with bioprosthesis and Dacron conduit. Pulmona...
A seventeen-year-old male with Bland-White-Garland syndrome underwent direct implantation of the left coronary artery to the ascending aorta. Under cardiopulmonary bypass, the main pulmonary artery was completely transected and the left coronary artery (LCA) was excised with a cuff of the pulmonary artery wall. Then the proximal end of LCA was directly anastomosed to the ascending aorta. The po...
Figure 1: Echocardiography showing, a large fistula with a diameter of 7 mm between the right pulmonary artery and the enlarged left atrium (A and B), CT scan showing an epidural hematoma (C). RA: right atrium; LA: left atrium; RPA: right pulmonary artery; AO: aorta; PA: pulmonary artery; RVOT: right ventricular outflow tract. Figure 2: Intraoperative view of the doubly ligated fistula between ...
AAo: ascending aorta (aor...
Maximum flow velocity waveforms were studied at the cardiac level (ascending aorta, pulmonary artery, and ductus arteriosus) and at the peripheral level (fetal internal carotid artery, descending aorta, umbilical artery, and maternal uteroplacental artery) in 25 patients with intrauterine growth retardation and 25 normal control subjects matched for gestational age and maternal parity. Gestatio...
Coarctation of the aorta was repaired surgically in a 4 month old boy using the anomalous right subclavian artery as a flap. The role of the anomalous artery in providing collateral flow to the descending aorta should be determined so that injudicious clamping is avoided.
The right-sided aorta associated with an aberrant left subclavian artery is a rare anomaly of the aortic branches in the upper mediastinum. We present a 62-year-old patient suffering from an acute dissection of the ascending aorta associated with hemopericardium. In this case, there was also aneurysmal dilatation of the origin of the left subclavian artery, known as diverticulum of Kommerell.
Method In 1989-2012, 60 patients (mean age 29 ± 6.7years) with complex aortic coarctation (n = 33), recurrent coarctation (n = 27; anastomosis pseudoaneurysm in 10), underwent correction using extraanatomic bypass, either or without extracorporeal circulation. The decision to use extracorporeal circulation was based on the anatomical location of the coarctation, length of hypoplasia and history...
We are reporting a rare case of a patient with the right coronary artery giving a large collateral vessel to an intercostal artery in a patient with repaired coarctation of aorta. A 64 year-old man with coarctation of the aorta, surgically repaired at 18 years of age, presented with dyspnea. A trans-esophageal echocardiogram revealed a severely stenotic bicuspid aortic valve.
