Unambiguous catalytic homogeneous alkane transfer dehydrogenation was observed with a group 10 metal complex catalyst, LPt(II)(cyclo-C6H10)H, supported by a lipophilic dimethyl-di(4-tert-butyl-2-pyridyl)borate anionic ligand and tert-butylethene as the sacrificial hydrogen acceptor.

Cellular binding of cationic nanoparticles in the presence of serum proteins was probed with two-colour fluorescence microscopy. Cationic nanoparticles associate with serum proteins in solution and bind to the cell surface as a single anionic complex. Displacement of serum proteins from the nanoparticles was found to be protein dependent.

A low-valent trinuclear iron complex with an unusual linear Fe(I)-Fe(II)-Fe(I) unit is presented. It is accessed in a rational approach using a salt metathesis reaction between a new anionic Fe(I) containing heterocycle and FeCl2. Several amino acid ligands were introduced into the Hoveyda-Grubbs 2nd generation complex by a facile anionic ligand exchange. The chiral pre-catalysts obtained displayed enantioselectivity in asymmetric ring-closing and ring-opening cross-metathesis reactions.
