Phase change materials based on chalcogenides are key enabling technologies for optical storage, such as rewritable CD and DVD, and recently also electrical nonvolatile memory, named phase change memory (PCM). In a PCM, the amorphous or crystalline phase affects the material band structure, hence the device resistance. Although phase transformation is extremely fast and repeatable, the amorphou...

2014 The photoconductivity of amorphous selenium varies linearly with light intensity. This result cannot be interpreted by the classical mechanism of electron-hole pair generation followed by recombination through gap states. We assume that the incident photons create photoinduced defects whose structure is IVAP-like. The optical or thermal excitation of those defects yields the photoconductiv...

The photoluminescence (PL) of the red laser dye DCM2, doped into blended thin films of polystyrene (PS) and the polar small molecule camphoric anhydride (CA), redshifts as the CA concentration increases. The DCM2 PL peaks at 2.20 eV (lambda=563 nm) for pure PS films and shifts to 2.05 eV (lambda=605 nm) for films with 24.5% CA (by mass). The capacitively measured electronic permittivity also in...

Electron emission spectra from thin metal foils with thin layers of water frozen on them (amorphous solid water) after fast proton impact have been measured and have been simulated in liquid water using the event-by-event track structure code PARTRAC. The electron transport model of PARTRAC has been extended to simulate electron transport down to 1 eV by including low-energy phonon, vibrational...

Fe and Ni doped mesoporous Co3O4 (mCo3O4) catalysts were prepared and investigated for electrochemical oxygen evolution. The incorporation of Fe into mCo3O4 (Fe-mCo3O4) results in unusual synergistic effects via destruction of the bulk mesoporous structure and formation of slit-like pores. The Fe-mCo3O4 composite displayed a significantly enhanced catalytic activity for oxygen evolution.

Co-crystals and co-amorphous systems are two strategies to improve the physical properties of an active pharmaceutical ingredient and, thus, have recently gained considerable interest both in academia and the pharmaceutical industry. In this study, the behavior of the recently identified sodium naproxen-lactose-tetrahydrate co-crystal and the co-amorphous mixture of sodium, naproxen, and lactos...
