Aeromonas hydrophila is an opportunistic pathogen residing in freshwater environments that causes infection in fish and mammals. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of A. hydrophila strain TN97-08 isolated from a diseased bluegill (Lepomis macrochirus) in 1997.

AIM The aim of this study is to identify antibiogram and heavy metal resistance pattern of Aeromonas hydrophila and Edwardsiella tarda isolated from red hybrid tilapia (Oreochromis spp.) coinfected with motile aeromonas septicemia and edwardsiellosis in four commercial fish farms. MATERIALS AND METHODS A. hydrophila and E. tarda were isolated using glutamate starch phenol red and xylose lysin...

The mesophilic Aeromonas hydrophila AH-3 (serotype O34) strain shows two different UDP-hexose epimerases in its genome: GalE (EC 3.1.5.2) and Gne (EC 3.1.5.7). Similar homologues were detected in the different mesophilic Aeromonas strains tested. GalE shows only UDP-galactose 4-epimerase activity, while Gne is able to perform a dual activity (mainly UDP-N-acetyl galactosamine 4-epimerase and al...

Aeromonas hydrophila strain KOR1, isolated from mangrove rhizosphere soil, has the ability to produce the quorum-sensing signal molecule. Here, we report the 4.78-Mb genome sequence of strain KOR1, and found its quorum-sensing encoding gene LuxR. The data will be crucial to understanding the quorum-sensing-dependent phenotypes of this bacterium.

BACKGROUND Aeromonas species, particularly Aeromonas hydrophila, cause a wide spectrum of diseases in human being such as gastroenteritis; soft tissue infections including necrotizing fasciitis, meningitis, peritonitis, and bacteremia; but pneumonia and respiratory tract infections are uncommon. METHODS Case report and literature review. RESULTS A 30-year-old victim of a motor vehicle crash...

We have investigated the existence and genetic organization of a functional type III secretion system (TTSS) in a mesophilic Aeromonas strain by initially using the Aeromonas hydrophila strain AH-3. We report for the first time the complete TTSS DNA sequence of an Aeromonas strain that comprises 35 genes organized in a similar disposition as that in Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Using several gene pr...

We have identified the genes ascF and ascG, which encode components of a putative type III secretion system (TTSS) in AEROMONAS: We investigated the distribution of these and other TTSS genes in 84 clinical isolates and found hybridizing sequences in 50% of the strains, with a higher prevalence in Aeromonas hydrophila and Aeromonas veronii than in Aeromonas caviae.

Bacterial samples had been isolated from clinically detected diseased juvenile Pangasius, collected from Mymensingh, Bangladesh. Primarily, the isolates were found as Gram-negative, motile, oxidase-positive, fermentative, and O/129 resistant Aeromonas bacteria. The species was exposed as Aeromonas hydrophila from esculin hydrolysis test. Ten isolates of A. hydrophila were identified from eye le...

background: the repetitive use of antibiotics in different fields (veterinary and medicine) improves the emergence and occurrence of the resistance phenomenon in pathogenic bacteria. due to the problem of antimicrobial resistance, it is an urgent need to discover new drugs and alternative treatments for the control of bacterial diseases in aquaculture. objectives: the purpose of this study is t...

Hirudo medicinalis has virtually an obligatory symbiotic relationship with the bacterium Aeromonas hydrophila (= Pseudomonas hirudinis), the only species of bacteria which lives in its gut (Zirpolo 1923; Lehmensick 1941, 1942; Hornbostel 1941; Büsing 1951; Büsing et al. 1953; Wilde 1976; Jennings and Van der Lande 1967; Whitlock, O'Hare, Saunders and Morrow 1983). Aeromonas hydrophila is import...
