The aerobic oxidation of alcohols was efficiently completed in high conversion and selectivity using Cu3/2[PMo12O40]/SiO2 as catalyst under mild reaction condition. This reaction provides a new environmentally friendly rout to the conversion of alcoholic function to carbonyl groups.

By employing aerobic oxidation to aldehydes as a more effective alcohol activation strategy, ligand-free copper catalysts were found to be superior catalysts than other metals in aerobic dehydrative β-alkylation of secondary alcohols and α-alkylation of methyl ketones using alcohols as the green alkylating reagents. Based on our mechanistic studies and also supported by the literature, we deduc...

the malate-aspartate-shuttle is normally utilized during aerobic exercise in conjunction with the lactate dehydrogenase equilibrium. The exact relationship between the aerobic and anaerobic re-oxidation of cytoplasmic NADH therefore remains unclear. We thank Dr. A. E. Gent and Professor R. 0. Weller for referring the patient and providing clincal information. This work was supported by the M.R....

In the preceding paper the oxidation of substrates by “indophenol oxidase” was demonstrated to be a joint action of cytochrome and cytochrome oxidase. It was further shown that with a given amount of oxidase the velocity of hydroquinone oxidation reached a maximum as the amount of added cytochrome was increased. The latter fact immediately suggested the probability that the rapid aerobic oxidat...

By employing aerobic oxidation to aldehydes as a more effective alcohol activation strategy, we developed a green Cu-catalyzed N-alkylation method for various amides and amines with alcohols. This reaction is more advantageous than the literature methods for it uses a ligand-free copper catalyst, can be readily carried out under milder aerobic conditions and generates water as the only byproduc...

Oxidation-reduction reactions, simply referred as “redox” reactions, describe all the chemical reactions in which atoms have their oxidation state changed. This can either be a simple redox process like the oxidation of carbon (C) to carbon dioxide (CO2) or the reduction of C by hydrogen (H) to yield methane (CH4). However, in biology redox reactions are rather complex and ‘redox biology’ is fu...

Lakes represent a considerable natural source of methane to the atmosphere compared to their small global surface area. Methanotrophs in sediments and in the water column largely control methane fluxes from these systems, yet the diversity, electron accepting capacity, and nutrient requirements of these microorganisms have only been partially identified. Here, we investigated the role of electr...

The types of fuel burned by juvenile rainbow trout (17 g) during a 58-h period of aerobic sustained exercise were studied by respirometry. Attempts to measure fuel usage by depletion (the compositional approach) in these same fish were unsuccessful due to tack of detectable changes in proximate body composition. 02 consumption, CO2 excretion, and nitrogenous waste excretion (ammonia-N plus urea...

A direct kinetic analysis is presented of rapid proton-releasing reactions at the outer or C-side of the membrane, in ox heart and rat liver mitochondria, associated with aerobic oxidation of reduced terminal respiratory carriers in the presence of antimycin. Valinomycin plus K+ enhances the rate of cytochrome c oxidation and the rate and extent of H+ release. In the presence of valinomycin the...
