Following removal of most of the telopeptide regions with pepsin, bovine dermal collagen gelled more slowly to form fibrils with a weak banding pattern. The reduction in gelling rate reflected an increase in the length of the nucleation phase and a lower rate of turbidity increase during the growth phase; the activation energy of both phases was increased. Lanthanide ions, phosphate, or, to a l...
Combining strong magnetic anisotropy with strong exchange interaction is a long standing goal in the design of quantum magnets. The lanthanide complexes, while exhibiting a very strong ionic anisotropy, usually display a weak exchange coupling, amounting to only a few wavenumbers. Recently, an isostructural series of mixed (Ln = Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er) have been reported, in which the exchange spli...
Contamination of toxic metals in the aquatic environment is one of the most debated problems in the world with industrial development. Thus, the minimization and recovery of harmful pollutants such as heavy metals in natural environment is very significant [1]. Various treatment technologies such as ion exchange, precipitation, ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis and electrodialysis have been used...
Property-optimized Gaussian basis sets of split-valence, triple-zeta valence, and quadruple-zeta valence quality are developed for the lanthanides Ce–Lu use with small-core relativistic effective core potentials. They constructed in a systematic fashion by augmenting def2 orbital diffuse functions minimizing negative static isotropic polarizabilities lanthanide atoms respect to set exponents wi...
Developing the conventional separation method by which minor actinides (MA) such as Am and Cm are separated from lanthanides is important with respect to their recovery isolation high-level radioactive waste (HLW). Owing chemical behavior of trivalent lanthanide actinide ions similar ionic radii, realizing this still challenging. All lanthanides, Am, can be extracted using diglycolamide (DGA) e...
Using sensitized Tb(3+) luminescence spectroscopy as a tool, binding of 14 lanthanides to a lanthanide-dependent DNAzyme is studied, where the binding affinity is symmetric across the series and the tightest binding occurs with Nd(3+) and Ho(3+). This trend does not correlate with DNAzyme activity, suggesting that metal binding may not be the rate-limiting step of the DNAzyme catalysis.
