In this paper pulsatile laminar blood flow in an axisymmetric stenosed tube is simulated by the Non-Newtonian Power law model. Effect of stenosis, for severe condition of 75% reduction of local area was considered and the flow patterns for three Womersley numbers were studied. The results show that there is a fundamental difference in the flow pattern at . This difference is related to second c...

We investigate the connection between the equatorial Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) and different types of the Northern Hemisphere mid-winter major stratospheric sudden warmings (SSWs), i.e., vortex-displacement and vortex-split SSWs. The MJO-SSW relationship for vortex-split SSWs is stronger than that for vortex-displacement SSWs, as a result of the stronger and more coherent eastward propaga...

Vortex is a workflow language to support decision making activities. It centers around gathering and computing attributes of input objects. The semantics of Vortex is declarative, and the dependency graphs of Vortex programs are acyclic. This paper discusses the application of symbolic model checking techniques to verification of Vortex programs. As a case study we used a Vortex program MIHU fo...

A microscopic, quantum mechanical model for neutron vortices in the crust of a neutron star is presented. After a brief introduction to the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations, which form the basis for our calculations, we present results for density distributions, vortex core sizes and vortex energies, both for an isolated neutron vortex and for the case when the vortex core overlaps with a cylindr...

We study how Laplacian Center Gauge identifies the vortex content of a thick SU(2) vortex configuration on the lattice. This configuration is a solution of the Yang-Mills classical equations of motion having vortex properties. We find that this gauge fixing procedure cleanly identifies the underlying vortex properties. We also study the monopole content of this configuration detected with this ...

We study vortex knotting in the Faddeev-Skyrme model. Starting with a straight vortex line twisted around its axis we follow its evolution under dissipative energy minimization dynamics. With low twist per unit length the vortex forms a helical coil, but with higher twist numbers the vortex becomes knotted or a ring is formed around the vortex. The present study explores flow visualization experiments with various blunt shaped bluff bodies placed inside a circular pipe. The bodies mainly comprise of modifications of trapezoidal cylinder, most widely used in practical applications, such as vortex flowmeters. The present configuration possesses the feature of both internal and external flows with low aspect ratio. The vortex dynamics of...

We perform Monte Carlo studies of vortices in three dimensions in a cylindrical confinement, with uniform and nonuniform density. The former is relevant to rotating 4He; the latter is relevant to a rotating trapped Bose-Einstein condensate. In the former case, we find dominant angular thermal vortex fluctuations close to the cylinder wall. For the latter case, a novel effect is that at low temp...

The vortex stretching process is relevant to energy transport at various scales in turbulent flow and in vortex reconnection. For these, reasons, exact solutions for vortex flow are useful. Robinson and Saffman [1] examined the Burgers vortex solution and found closed form steady solutions for special parameter values. Unsteady 2D Burgers vortex solutions have been used to model the spanwise st...

Recently several different approaches have been developed for the simulation of three-dimensional incompressible fluid flows using vortex methods. Some versions use detailed tracking of vortex filament structures and often local curvatures of these filaments, while other methods require only crude information, such as the vortex blobs of the two-dimensional case. Can such "crude" algorithms acc...
