Visual disturbances in migraineurs, such as visual aura, are typically episodic, that is, associated with the headache attack, and overlaid by head pain and other symptoms that impact the patient. In some patients, however, visual symptoms are dominant due to frequency (migraine aura status), duration (persistent migraine aura and other persistent positive visual phenomena), or complexity (visu...

INTRODUCTION Carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning may result in neurological and neuropsychological sequelae, including visual problems. We performed neuro-optometric evaluation on patients who reported vision or attention complaints after CO poisoning. METHODS We performed a retrospective chart review of patients with continued symptoms after CO poisoning who had neuro-optometry evaluations betwee...

In this paper, a SVM classifier based on S-Transform is presented for power quality disturbances classification. Firstly, seven types of PQ events are created using Matlab simulation. These signals are analyzed to detect and localize PQ events via S-Transform by visual inspection. Then five significant features of the PQ disturbances are extracted from the S-Transform output. Afterwards, PQ dis...

Visual position and velocity cues improve human standing balance, reducing sway responses to external disturbances and sway variability. Previous work suggested that human balancing is based on sensory estimates of external disturbances and their compensation using feedback mechanisms (Disturbance Estimation and Compensation, DEC model). This study investigates the visual effects on sway respon...

Visual disturbances are a common side-effect of many antiepileptic drugs. Non-specific retino- and neurotoxic visual abnormalities, that are often reported with over-dosage and prolonged AED use, include diplopia, blurred vision and nystagmus. Some anticonvulsants are associated with specific visual problems that may be related to the mechanistic properties of the drug, and occur even when the ...

A 60-year-old man suffering from photophobia and visual disturbances was found to have bilateral superficial corneal grey-white gelatinous deposits. An abnormal cold-precipitable serum component was found and characterised as homogeneous IgG-kappa immunoglobulin. Corneal immunohistochemical examination revealed subepithelial IgG-kappa deposits, focally replacing Bowman's layer. The patient unde...

This report describes a case of a serpentine fusiform aneurysm of the internal carotid artery in a patient who presented with visual disturbances. The serpentine aneurysm was treated successfully by coil trapping and occlusion of the parent artery, accompanied by balloon dilation. Nine months post-operatively, the patient's visual acuity had improved considerably.

Visual and auditory reaction times were studied in patients suffering from diabetes mellitus and age matched normal control subjects. Auditory reaction times were shorter than visual reaction times in control subjects as well as diabetic patients. In diabetic patients, there was significant prolongation of visual as well as auditory reaction times. Further studies of reaction times for various ...

Primates have several reflexes that generate eye movements to compensate for bodily movements that would otherwise disturb their gaze and undermine their ability to process visual information. Two vestibulo-ocular reflexes compensate selectively for rotational and translational disturbances of the head, and each has visual backups that operate as negative feedback tracking mechanisms to deal wi...

Visual perceptual disturbances in psychiatry range from absence of sensory stimuli to sensory distortion or deception [1]. Although less common than auditory hallucination, the presence of visual perceptual disturbance in patients with mental illness can be distressing [2]. Ascertaining the cause and type of visual perceptual disturbance occurring in symptomatic patients can be difficult to del...
