By dissecting and reconstituting a cell-free influenza virus genome replication system, we have purified and identified the minichromosome maintenance (MCM) complex, which is thought to be a DNA replicative helicase, as one of the host factors that regulate the virus genome replication. MCM interacted with the PA subunit of the viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase that is found to be involved in ...

Viruses as obligate intracellular parasites use host cell proteins to ensure efficient replication and spread. Cellular proteins are required for several stages of a virus life cycle. Here, we identify BAG3, a co-chaperone, as a regulator of herpes virus immediate early gene expression. We report that a herpes simplex virus lacking the gene encoding a potent transcriptional activator, ICP0, is ...

Infection of the central nervous system (CNS) by the JHM strain of mouse hepatitis virus (JHMV) is a rodent model of the human demyelinating disease multiple sclerosis. The inability of effective host immune responses to eliminate virus from the CNS results in a chronic infection associated with ongoing recurrent demyelination. JHMV infects a variety of CNS cell types during the acute phase of ...

Numerous plant RNA viruses have associated with them satellite (sat) RNAs that have little or no nucleotide sequence similarity to either the viral or host genomes but are completely dependent on the helper virus for replication. We report here on the discovery of a 682-nt circular DNA satellite associated with tomato leaf curl geminivirus (TLCV) infection in northern Australia. This is the fir...

Vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV), the prototypic rhabdovirus, has been used as an excellent paradigm for understanding the mechanisms of virus replication, pathogenesis, host response to virus infection and also for myriads of studies on cellular and molecular biology. Biochemical studies as well as high-throughput genomics, proteomics, and chemical approaches have revealed a plethora of cellul...

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a viral pneumonia emerged in December 2019 in Wuhan, China. Its cause is a new virus from the coronavirus family scientifically named Coronavirus Acute Respiratory Syndrome 2 (SARS-CoV-2). In this review study, articles published in English until March 23, 2020 on new coronavirus infection were reviewed. These articles are obtained by searching in PubMed, ...

We developed a replication-defective reporter virus pseudotyped with the envelope glycoprotein of equine infectious anemia virus (EIAV). The in vitro host range and neutralization phenotype of EIAV Env-pseudotyped virus were similar to those of replication-competent virus. An EIAV Env pseudovirus will improve antigenic characterization of viral variants and evaluation of lentivirus vaccines.

Matrix protein is known to have an important role in the process of virus assembly and virion release during measles virus replication. In the present in vitro study, a single mutation of E89K in the matrix protein was shown to affect cell death and virus replication efficiency in human PBMC. One strain with this mutation caused less cell death than the parental virus, and possessed high virus ...

Cell-to-cell transmission of HIV has been proposed as a mechanism contributing to virus escape to the action of antiretrovirals and a mode of HIV persistence during antiretroviral therapy. Here, cocultures of infected HIV-1 cells with primary CD4(+) T cells or lymphoid cells were used to evaluate virus transmission and the effect of known antiretrovirals. Transfer of HIV antigen from infected t...

Human T-lymphotropic virus type I (HTLV-1) is an endemic virus in Iran and other regions that is associated with multiple diseases including adult T-cell leukemia/ lymphoma and a chronic debilitating neuroinflammatory disease, HTLV-1-associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis (HAM/TSP). HAM/TSP is seen in approximately 2% of HTLV-1-infected people with symptoms such as back pain, weakne...
