Ureteral endometriosis: clinical and radiological follow-up after laparoscopic ureterocystoneostomy.
BACKGROUND Ureteral endometriosis is a rare entity that may lead to progressive hydroureteronephrosis and renal loss. When the localization of ureteral stenosis is close to the ureterovesical junction, ureterocystoneostomy may be required. The aim of the present study was to evaluate post-operative complication rates and clinical outcomes at 1- and 6-month follow-up after laparoscopic ureterocy...
We report a 10-year-old boy who presented with nocturnal enuresis. Radiological workup revealed a left ureteral triplication (Smith type 2) with a contralateral duplication and ureterocele. This presentation and its association are extremely rare. The clinical and radiological features are presented here as early diagnosis is important to avoid complications and future renal damage.
VUR, as the incidence of structural abnormalities associated with UTI is highest in this group. All young children with febrile UTI are at increased risk of acute pyelonephritis and it is difficult to differentiate upper from lower UTI in this age group. Therefore, it is recommended that all these episodes in young children be managed as pyelonephritis as they have the potential for renal scarr...
Paederus dermatitis is a peculiar contact dermatitis caused by pederine contained in the hemolimph of a small insect of the genus Paederus. It is characterized by vesico-pustulous eruption arising over an erythematous background, of sudden onset, over exposed areas of the body, and the history of outdoor activities. Diagnosis is based on the typical clinical features and the epidemiological con...
INTRODUCTION Procalcitonin is a reliable and specific marker of bacterial infections such as urinary tract infection. Some authors suggest measurement of serum procalcitonin as a predictor of vesicoureteral reflux (VUR). We investigated this association in children admitted because of acute pyelonephritis. MATERIALS AND METHODS Forty-eight children with the first febrile urinary tract infecti...
The management of paediatric primary vesico-ureteric reflux (VUR) has undergone serial changes over the last decade. As this disorder is extremely heterogeneous, and high-quality prospective data are limited, the treatment strategies vary among centres. Current treatment options include observation only, continuous antibiotic prophylaxis, and surgery. Surgical intervention is indicated if a chi...
BACKGROUND Vesicoureteric reflux (VUR) is an important association of paediatric urinary tract infection (UTI) found in 30-50% of all children presenting with first UTI. Contrast-enhanced voiding ultrasonography (ceVUS) has become an important radiation-free method for VUR detection in children. Its sensitivity in detecting VUR has greatly improved due to the development of the contrast-specifi...
