PURPOSE We aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of botulinum toxin A (BTX-A) injections under ultrasonography (US) guidance for children with excessive drooling. MATERIALS AND METHODS Between January 2006 and January 2011, 44 BTX-A injections into bilateral submandibular glands were performed in 20 children (mean age, 9.1 years; range, 3-16 years; gender, 15 boys and 5 girls) under intra...

BACKGROUND Recent studies have demonstrated that axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) does not affect patient survival, even in those with one or two positive sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs). On the other hand, patients with 3 or more metastatic lymph nodes are eligible for chemotherapy. Therefore, it is crucial to identify a priori patients at risk of having a high number of metastatic axillary l...

PURPOSE This study retrospectively evaluated ultrasonography-guided (US-guided) percutaneous thrombin injection for the treatment of postcatheterization femoral and brachial artery pseudoaneurysms. MATERIALS AND METHODS Fifty-five patients with postcatheterization femoral artery (n = 53) or brachial artery (n = 2) pseudoaneurysms were treated using US-guided human thrombin (500 IU/mL) injecti...

BACKGROUND Placement of a central venous catheter (CVC) in a pediatric patient is an important skill for pediatric emergency medicine physicians but can be challenging and time consuming. Ultrasound (US) guidance has been shown to improve success of central line placement in adult patients. OBJECTIVES This article aims to review the literature and evaluate the benefit of US guidance in the pl...

US has important advantages in guiding interventional procedures: it is economical and widely available, it does not use ionizing radiation, and it requires less time than other techniques. US guidance can be provided using devices adapted to probes or using the freehand technique (holding the needle in one hand and the probe in the other). US-guided procedures require careful planning, adequat...

PURPOSE Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (US) has been shown to be an efficient imaging modality in guiding radiofrequency (RF) ablation of hepatocellular carcinomas (HCC). The purpose of the present study was to assess the usefulness of contrast-enhanced US in guiding RF ablation in patients with early-stage HCC that was not clearly visible on grayscale US or noncontrast computed tomography (CT). ...

We read with great interest the article recently published in your journal about central venous cannulation of the internal jugular vein using ultrasound (US)-guided and anatomical landmark (AL) techniques in Iran (1). In their study, Fathi et al. concluded that the AL technique is superior to the US-guided method in Iran. As you are aware, the physician’s skill is the most important confounder...

We prove that a GF(q)-linear Rédei blocking set of size qt + qt−1 + · · · + q + 1 of PG(2, qt ) defines a derivable partial spread of PG(2t − 1, q). Using such a relationship, we are able to prove that there are at least two inequivalent Rédei minimal blocking sets of size qt + qt−1 + · · · + q + 1 in PG(2, qt ), if t ≥ 4.
