A device comprising two interconnected networks of oscillators exhibiting spatiotemporal chaos is considered. An external cue stabilizes input specific unstable periodic orbits of the first network, thus creating an "attentive" state. Only in this state is the device able to perform pattern discrimination and motion detection. We discuss the relevance of the procedure to the information process...
Introduction: 24-67% of recreational runners suffer from running-related injuries. The purpose of this study was to test the effect of unstable shoes on selected ground reaction force (GRF) parameters during stance phase of running. Method: 20 healthy men (age of 21±2.27 years, height of 176.93±5.39 cm, and mass of 72.30±8.84 kg) ran on the force plate placed in the middle of 15 m runway in ba...
-------------------------------------------------------------------ABSTRACT------------------------------------------------------------Mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is composed of a collection of mobile nodes which are movable. Therefore, dynamic topology, unstable links, limited energy capacity and absence of fixed infrastructure are special features for MANET when compared to wired networks. ...
We propose DisCord, an opportunistic protocol for neighbor discovery and data exchange coordination in sensor networks. DisCord allows multiple low-end nodes within radio range to discover each other, self-organize into a network, and exchange data in an autonomous fashion. DisCord can successfully cope with node mobility and unstable network dynamics.
In this paper we discuss the difficulties of customized mass production in case of high manufacturing setup costs and unstable markets, where due to high service level requirements and demand volatility the risk of remaining obsolete inventory is significant. We propose a two-level logistics framework for coordinating supply channels in such production networks and methods for medium-term lot s...
A continuous time Monte Carlo lattice gas dynamics is developed to model driven steady states of vortices in two dimensional superconducting networks. Dramatic differences are found when compared to a simpler Metropolis dynamics. Subtle finite size effects are found at low temperature, with a moving smectic that becomes unstable to an anisotropic liquid on sufficiently large length scales.
